Some UM Faculty Upset with Mario’s Deal

So some FSU fans are trying to run with this to bad mouth the university since they don't have anything better to do during bowl season, no shirtless practices to watch, so this is just a friendly reminder to tell your local FSU fan to go fuq themselves.

Their enrollment, tuition rate, research grants, UHealth, Athletics are all driven by the brand which requires spending. Yes the "businesses" are consolidated under the U, but they operate mostly independent.

Out of hand spending on coaches isn't just a Miami problem, it's a CFB issue. The only reason people are taking issue is because the U is starting to play the game, they can't stand it, the fear and hatred of the U succeeding is very real. Gotta embrace it, it ain't going anywhere.

As a graduate from the university, there isn’t a single tenured professor there worth the card stock their checks are printed on, and moreover, besides the medical school, there isn’t a professor or a program that stands tall independently without sports, to draw interest and students.
This is categorically false. Do you know all the professors in every program to support this ludicrous statement?

Sounds like a lot of crying and complaining, trying to pin this on Mario when there’s concrete proof the funds for his contract came from boosters and not from slashed pay from academic employees.

Ill stay out of X’s and O’s When it comes to proper compensations, but to blame Mario…that’s petty and smells like Epstein.

Besides, when’s the last time Sandra Kelly from Psych 101 generated significant revenue for the university?

For five ******* minutes, can we stop demonizing people? Can we think in bigger terms? Can we refrain from making every discussion about Team X vs. Team Y.

This is why I have warned people not to crown Frenk, he's got another 99% of his job to do, the 99% that doesn't involve Athletics.

No matter who the President is, the University of Miami has, FOR DECADES, operated in relative anonymity, with poor messaging and very little transparency on where all the money goes.

Should I post pictures from the 1980s, when UM students were protesting Tad Foote's ANNUAL increases of 9.9% in tuition?

Should I link stories from the 2000s, when Donna Shalala's administration was being picketed by CUSTODIAL AND CAFETERIA WORKERS who were being paid low salaries?

The faculty have a valid grievance. The timing and the messaging of Mario's hire and pay are terrible. I wish it was better. Why do you think I make the effort on this board to try to provide factual information when people re-post INACCURATE garbage reported in the media?

So buckle up. We know that the members of the press who don't like Miami will continue to post stories that paint Miami in the worst possible light. Ignore it. And let's encourage Julio Frenk to PAY THE FACULTY, just as we encouraged him to hire Mario and Dan.

Go Canes!

When a history professor generates millions in revenue, then I will listen....

...and I am an alumnus.

They do. It's called "tuition".

And just like Athletics, some departments bring in more money than others, just as Football brings in more money than Women's Soccer. We know that the Med School rakes in billions. We know that Arts & Sciences doesn't.

This is life.

Fvck F$U.

They are actively trying to steal $20 million of sales tax funds from all of the small businesses in Leon County to pay for renovations to 70 year old Joke Campbell Stadium.

From the article: “Many UM professors and other faculty — forced to teach in person…”

So a couple of snowflake justice warrior teachers at UM decided to vent their envy publicily, meanwhile they’re also complaining about having to teach “in person“.

Poor little teachers, have to actually show up to work - how sad.

Boo hoo.

Shut the fūck up and just fūcking teach, you whiny little beetches.
That is the sin of sins right there. Having to be in class. As I think back to college, in retrospect, my heart aches for people like Dr Krenn and Professor Graf who actually had to brave the swarms of angry, diarrhetic ducks to get to the Learning Center. These were acts of courage on their part.

Just tear that brutalist stadium down and let them play on a grass field with a few bleachers. After Norvell is done it’s not like they are going to need a large capacity stadium anyway:

I think the bigger issue is how many administrators are there now? I know Yale has more administration than students.

Finally, someone makes a relevant and factual comment.

UM charges $70K for tuition, many classes are taught by low-paid adjuncts, buildings are purchased with donations...so where does the money go?

Yeah, "administration" is a huge portion of the correct answer.

I read somewhere the urinals at Doak have gotten as bad as they were at the OB in its final days.

I'm all for teachers and professors l getting more. At the same time, if you saw how much some of these professors made, you would stroke.

Where were these professors and teachers when Miami's team sucked? Did these sane people complain when Miami dropped in some academic rankings?

Did these same individuals complain when tuition went up?

I'll wait

Yes, some professors make a lot, and others get paid crap, particularly adjunct professors. As a pretty good private school, Miami doesn't rely on adjuncts as much as the Florida state schools do, but it's still a dirty little secret of the industry.

For instance, most of the professors who teach the first year "Tutorial" (legal research & writing) course at UM Law are adjuncts and don't get paid very much at all (I know, I considered taking one of the jobs after I graduated from UM Law).

And I helped a personal friend do his tax returns for many years, he was a part-time adjunct at UCF, and if I told you what his pay was, you would wonder why anyone actually expends the time to do a job like that.

Then let one of their players sponsor new, less rusty, more water-tight integrity troughs. The “gently” refurbished restroom can even have a plaque for its sponsorship.

FSU stadium after urinal refurbishment…

If these faulty members want to know where their compensation went, they should look no further than the army of administrators being hired by universities.

College tuition has increased far beyond the rate of inflation, but faculty salaries have stagnated because schools have hired an army of diversity officers and assistant diversity offers and special ombudsman to the head of student relations and on and on.

Administrators are taking money out of teachers' pockets, but yeah the football coach is to blame.

Higher ed is a scam.

And tuition increases outpaced inflation in the 1980s, when there was no such thing as a "diversity officer".

Your general point about administration is relevant, but your insistence on making this political is misguided and inaccurate.

And like clockwork guess who is out there promoting and amplifying this nonsense? I don't even blame frauds and leeches like Cohen and Feast and Puke any more. I blame people in our fanbase too stupid to realize what they are.

Kinda sad that Mike Ryan plays along with Cohen's shtick and grift though. Lebatard doing so is par for the course.

Trump broke Corbens brain.

The school should make the faculty whole from the cuts made for Covid last year. They clearly have the money for it. Academia doesn't pay well, even if you are tenured. Having said that the timing of this is horse****, and I'd bet my life it's instigated by the same people fighting to prevent Miami from spending on athletics.

Yeah, remember the "Rutgers 1000", the Rutgers faculty members who were always protesting the funding and support of Rutgers Athletics?

Every god**** university in this country has anti-Athletics professors, some schools more than others. It is nothing new and it has absolutely nothing to do with politics.
