Some Stephen Morris questions for those in the know...

One - QB is NOT they key to the season - stopping the run is the key. Look at almost every team in the top 10 - they stop the run

Two - Stop with the Dorsey discussion: Love Kenny but he would probably a .500 QB with this team. Before you scream at me - 2001 RBs: Mcgahee, Davenport, Portis & Gore 2001 WRs: Andre J, Beard, roscoe, Winslo, Shockey & Gathers. I dont believe ANY RBs and WRs on this team can match the 2nd string guys from 2001. And I wont even talk about the OLs

I'm going to disagree with the OP regarding Morris's ability to throw with touch.

I believe one of Morris's weaknesses is that he tries to throw everything on a line. Remember the pass to Lamar (wheel route) down the sidelines @ Maryland? If thrown properly with touch that is a huge gainer maybe even a TD.

Morris has very nice skills. I hope he is comfortable enough with his arm and his skills to be able to read a defense, slow down, survey what you are seeing and what you are trying to do if option A or B is not there.

One last thing Morris needs to become a calming presence in the huddle. A lot of times when you see guys lining up wrong or jumping off sides it, too many men on the LOS it's because there is no leader in the huddle.

It is the player's responsibility to line up correctly, not jump off sides etc... I get that. But one of the "many" jobs that Morris has is to get the play called, re-assure his offense that he is the guy that will lead them, look them in the eye and be that calming presence.

He needs to break the huddle quickly, look over the "O" and be that guy to get everyone lined up correctly while still managing to remember the snap count, play, read the defense and be alert to the audible all the while knowing how much time there is on the play clock.

It's a lot to deal with but if he has grown up and can be that guy, I look for him to have a strong year for us.

Listen, I was really hesitant to make the SMorris Breakdown video because it was such a small sampling of all of his capabilities. It was almost an injustice to do since the circumstances of him coming into that game and being thrown into the starting role would have many folks jumping to the wrong conclusions. There were so many distractions and of course no time for him really to get acclimated to the new offense and running with the first team. Morris mechanics are pretty solid. I do agree that he has to work more on his touch passes and also when he gets into a hurry, his footwork gets messy and he tends to let the ball sail on him. Mind you this is all before he had a full year under Fisch and an offseason to work on the play book and his footwork. I think Morris will be a pleasant surprise to many people. Will he be outstanding and single handedly spur the canes on to many victories? Probably not but he will take care of the ball and keep us in positions to win and that's all we can ask for. Morris biggest problem was reading the middle of the field. I know that is something Fisch worked with all the QBs on this offseason. Besides that moment on the sideline at the end of the Maryland game, all of Morris INTs came in the center of the field where he failed to see LBs dropping into coverage or overthrowing his receiver across the middle. I'm pretty sure those are the first things Coach Fisch looked to address and fix with outlet receivers and check downs. With time and experience this kid will be a gamer. For all those who think that the sample of plays in the SMorris Breakdown video is a great indicator of the QB we are going to get this year....My only response is:

I'm riding with Morris this year. Just like JHarris, we will see a marked improvement with SMorris after an offseason with Fisch!! Dammm Football is ALMOST HERE!!!

Travis Benjamin dropped two sure TD passes from Morris.

One was against VT at home in 2010. Morris put it right on the money and Benjamin dropped it. Killed the season.

The other was last year against Duke. Option pass. Perfect deep ball. Benjamin dropped it in the endzone.
