And now even guys with more knowledge than 95% of this board combined like LCE and even JayCane are admitting this is getting a tad bit ridiculous…but keep on slurping away I guess; I’m just calling it like it is.

Miami is as unique of a school and city as you'll find in the cfb landscape.

As such, you won't find any plugged in "insiders" at the national level.

There are barely any at the local level outside of this board.

Even our own reporters are clueless

Seals the deal? No. But if you all don’t think it’s important for these guys to start building relationships with the staff than I don’t know what to tell you. Look at the relationship skinner and field have, it was the deciding factor. So for this extremely impressive list of studs, we have 3 holes that could have been the start of a relationship. Face to face time too for these out of staters.

Kids also make snap judgments. If they show up, and they're not feeling it because of the lack of attention/lack of relationship-building, they may never come back, or it may put us in a hole that we'll have to climb out of.

I do trust Mario when it comes to recruiting though.

Either way we are taking some Ls in regards to perception right now with two OC candidates supposedly turning down the job, no DC candidate emerging publicly and losing top recruiting DB coach to Alabama. Now, once we hire some coaches none of this will matter and if we have a great season it is a total afterthought

I'm just not so sure.

We have tons of pretty plugged in insiders saying Briles was offered.
- McMurphy is a clown but he's right a lot (been wrong on Miami a lot though).
- The same footballscoop article that alerted us to Candle and correctly claimed Candle was the top guy also claimed Briles was next up iirc.
- Arky 247 guys, who are pretty spot on, reported an offer.
- Chris Hummer at 247 reported an offer
- ESPN claiming Briles was offered

If I had to guess I'd say he wasn't offered, but I'm not entirely confident.

who says Briles was offered? I haven't seen one "plugged in" person say they know Briles was hired. everyone knows he was interviewed. doesn't mean he got an official "offer".

Yesterday was definitely rough, but with how important this weekend is you have to imagine that Mario has a plan. I’d expect an announcement between now and Saturday AM.

As for Saban, Candle, Briles, ooooo and especially TRob

He hired him on 2/28 because Leavitt didn't leave until 2/14.

I understand that, but at a certain point it is absolutely fair to question. That example aside, Mario is known as being very thorough and long in his interview process. That is good but it also can turn into analysis paralysis. Maybe he wants to see how the NFL trees shake out, but we are playing with one hand tied behind our backs until then.

Not sure what makes me more upset: Briles turning us down or the fact that Briles wanted to come here and we didn't offer.

Anyway. Mike has been the guy, so I'll ride with him on this. But this does sound like spin/damage control.

The lack of a new Arky contract for Briles may be telling on this one...

Unless I'm mistaken, Gaynor and Silvera have hit the portal since Mario arrived. Do people really think of those two as important enough pieces to call the portal an L when we've brought in Lichtenstein, Ladson, and Parrish?

I think people are not really basing the current grade off of who we lost, but mainly off who we didn't successfully bring in to upgrade the roster. Every level of the defense could use a talent upgrade. DL, LB, and CB opposite of TRiq. In addition, I believe we could still use another experienced WR and OL on offense as well. However, I'm going to wait until post Spring to see the finished product before passing judgment.

Guess what happened when Saban lost his DB coach to Oklahoma. He went and hired one of the best a week later.
