InsideTheU reported on Wednesday night that secondary coach
Travaris Robinson was leaving Miami to take a role on Nick Saban's staff at Alabama.
One name to keep in mind through this search to replace Robinson is Colorado cornerbacks coach
Rod Chance, who made the move to Boulder after spending the last two years under
Mario Cristobal at Oregon.
Chance, a Fort Lauderdale native who played his high school football at St. Thomas Aquinas, has deep ties to Broward County, and especially at his alma mater. Chance was a key piece in Oregon's recruiting efforts for Miami signee
Nyjalik Kelly, who was heavily considering the Ducks prior to Cristobal taking the Miami job. He was also
Earl Little Jr.'s top recruiter for the Ducks, who got an official visit from the Alabama signee.
Chance also has connections to multiple members of South Florida's loaded Class of 2023.
InsideTheU learned that he played with Plantation American Heritage Top247 safety Daemon ***an's father growing up, and has strong ties to others in the area such as Fort Lauderdale Stranahan Top247 wide receiver
Hykeem Williams and Plantation American Heritage cornerback
Damari Brown.
All three of those guys have received offers from Chance at Colorado over the past ten days or so. Chance was also the primary recruiter to former Oregon commit and Top247 cornerback
Jahlil Florence, who Miami was hoping to get on campus last weekend for an official visit before he canceled it for personal reasons.
While at Minnesota in 2019 as the Gophers cornerbacks coach, Chance dipped into American Heritage and landed wide receiver
Douglas Emilien, who Miami also pushed for late in that 2020 cycle. During his lone season with the school, the Minnesota pass defense finished No. 9 nationally which was up from No. 51 the year before. Chance also served as the defensive coordinator at Southern Utah University from 2016 to 2017. He also worked at Rhode Island, his alma mater, and under both
James Franklin and
Derek Mason at Vanderbilt early on in his career.
