So Kenny Dorsey would leave a QB coach/PGC job and a very likely future OC role in the NFL to be the Co-OC at Miami with McClendon? I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm saying that, of the names that have been referenced, Dorsey would be the most likely to be the "Co-OC to be named later" person.

As for what you think about how to build a resume, I don't really care. If Dorsey takes the role, it will be due to his love of UM and love of Cristobal, not some cold-hearted calculus about which line is superior on a resume.

Not to mention the fact that a very hot name (Brady) failed when his FIRST full playcalling job was in the NFL rather than in college. There is something to be said for getting your first playcalling responsibility as a Co-OC at the collegiate level, as well as "getting credit" for building something of your own, rather than inheriting it from Daboll.

I am not saying that either choice is inherently superior or inferior, just that I can acknowledge the arguments for why coming to Miami would make sense.

That's fair, you are probably right. I just think that the Co-OC thing means we are not getting a "big" name (Dorsey, even if he never called plays, would be a big hire for me).

I've lived here for 37 out of my 42 years unfortunately. I actually know boosters. Those boosters are pretty happy that he just signed the #1 rated QB in the '22 class and #6 overall class. He didn't acquire that without help from those boosters money. What you're saying is obviously true typically, but those cultists are not typical.

Well there’s no way we will settle this here now.

We will discuss this over the next couple of years and see what happens.

I don’t discount that you have close acquaintances that are supporters, and that does count for a lot, but I just feel like we’re in a new era of college football. Less patience and more money.

Let’s stay in touch over the next couple of years and see what happens.

Yeah after looking at a number of different staffs I think this doesn't mean much. There's a number of teams that have OC, Co-OC, PGC or RGc so it looks like there's still a very clear path to have a traditional OC even with McClendon as Co-OC.

There is smoke the past 2 days with Brady again centered on a few articles linking Caleb Williams to Miami; however, I am not buying into the hype. If Brady was the choice, we would have heard by now given that he is currently unemployed.

I don't think it is Briles either as we probably would have heard something now that Arky's season is over. That leaves Dorsey as the next man up. Not sure how I feel about Dorsey. Adding Chud as a "grey beard" analyst to mentor KD makes sense so that could work.

No matter who emerges, we gotta admit Mario has kept this search (both OC and DC) quiet with few leaks.
I give zero ***** about his leak security. Let’s get top OC/DC and let’s start killing it!

Aside from the CO-OC semantics, who are we getting in Bryan McClendon? Some cliff notes:
  • 38 year old who played HS ball in ATL and played ball at UGA.
  • Cut his teeth as a coach at UGA for multiple years.
  • Then, held the CO-OC/WR role at South Carolina.
  • Worked under Mario for two years at Oregon in a similar role as PGR/WR coach.
  • Know as a relentless recruiter with extremely strong ties to the Southeast.
  • Leader of men and future HC one day.

All nice but does he hold the bags to entice da cruits??

yeah and recall that Richt Jr was also in that mix as playcaller. I remember it was a complete mystery who was calling plays that year - one week it was TB, the other it was Richt Jr, then dugans, etc. What a cluster lol

I think Rick Senior was the only one that ever called offensive plays

Guys. The only titles that really matter from a responsibilities standpoint is the HC, and who is calling the offensive and defensive plays. What the play-callers are all called means very little. What everyone else is called, means even less.

That said, 99.9% of the time that means HC/OC/DC. After that, every single title is just a way to give highly desired guys a fancy title that justifies a big salary so you don't lose them to a another team offering it. Everyone wants to be the man who calls plays and these little titles make everyone feel 6" closer to the prize. There aren't suddenly magical coaching roles that never existed before. Even when a position coach gets STC title the responsibilities are usually shared.

AHC
Co-DC
Co-OC
PGC
RGC

...are 99% of the time just made up things to lure top coaching talent. Are there any executives out there? Titles are part of comp. Our new DL coach was AHS/DL/RGC (defensive lol!)/RC at Oregon I think! LOL. Come on.

"But Crippy, the AHS helps the HC with some of his duties to free him up!"

No kidding. As has the senior assistant that the HC trusts the most since the dawn of time.

"But Crippy, some teams have two co-coordinators instead of an OC and a Co-OC!"

Yeah and the only one anyone cares about is who is calling the plays. And that situation, where the title is shared, is really rare. Clemson did it. I can't even think of anyone else. So its not relevant IMO.

All these other crazy titles are again, just ways to lure the best coaches you can. Do you guys really think that the Co-OC, PGC, and RGC are really doing what their titles say? There would be nothing left for your $2M a year OC to do!

You can give every offensive coach a coordinator title if you like. The OC is still the OC.

Not much has changed in coaching with the exception of the armies of analysts on the back end.

*Also, anyone who doesn't think Dorsey would be a huge coup is off their meds.

**And double also even if Franklin is on the hot seat Seider could have a three year deal or a rolling deal and be set up for a nice buyout. He has leverage. So if Franklin goes down Sieder will be fine. He'd practically be able to pick his next job.

FIN.
