It’s a pretty big mess there. The program and the head coach both think they made a bad choice lol.

Harsin was semi-openly campaigning for the Oregon and Washington gigs. He desperately wants to get back out west.
That whole hire never made sense from either of their standpoints. Harsin’s never been a SE guy, he’s always been out west. He’d have been better off taking another year at the truck driving school and jumping at one of the inevitable Pac12 jobs that opens every year.

I am not filling in the blanks with my worst nightmare. I'm just stating that there is not point of reference as far as I can tell on what his offensive philosophy. I can't fill it with the worst and I can't fill it with blind optimism either. I did say that if there is information out there that she's light on that it would be greatly appreciated to give some reference.
Yes I am sure Mario would ask all those questions. That's kinda not the point of a discussion on a fan message board. All we are trying to do here is have conversations about how our offense would look like under KD. Regardless of who he hires I'll support it until I can't. In reality I don't give a flying fvck if they hire KD or not. It has zero effect in my personal life. I just hope for the best. Finally regarding your ditch-diggers comment...go fvck yourself.

Well, I mostly said "the board" and not you on purpose.

My point is one of the best football coaches on earth who took the challenge and came home to a pressure-cooker of coaching for his old teammates, family and friends and his old U, who knows 100000x more about football, hiring, building, recruiting, and drawing a coaching staff than this entire board is in charge. He's all-in. This isn't the clown car it used to be. Mario is the filter and it would be nice if people gave him the benefit of the doubt for at least the first 5 minutes before they turn on him at the first hint of adversity. Let the man work.

Lots of reasons but like I said in this thread “ I like smart football people”.

I also like coaches that’s coached multiple positions. Mason has coached Db’s, wr’s, rb’s and even special teams. On top of being Ahc and a DC. He’s literally touched every part of the game.

On top of that he’s a great dc. He brings a toughness to every defense he’s coached.

Even his Vandy teams were hard nosed and physical. I always came away impressed by those teams.

His defenses at Stanford were everything you’d expect. He fits exactly the mind set Mario wants and what this program needs. A no nonsense teacher. And yes , he can recruit.

I don’t care if he’s a two gap or a one gap coach, there’s more than one way to skin a cat , plus this guy actually has a resume of success, unlike Al and his boyfriend .

Lastly it’s always a positive to have former head coaches on staff. From position coaches to Coordinators or even analysts.
He also adjusts to his personnel. Even though he is a 3-4 guys he ran more even fronts because that’s what Auburn recruited. Wouldn’t be mad if he was offered the job

Absolutely! I can 100% agree with that.

The boosters had Freeze locked up but the AD want rogue and got Harsin to spite them.

He did have that One year at Ark State, but your point still stands it’s a bad fit on both sides. I live in Bama and I didn’t think it would work.

If the hire is Mason, he probably won’t be coaching LBs, he’s never have. Unless he decides he wants to make that change to keep Trob in his role. As a DC at Stanford and now Auburn he controlled the safeties room. Always had a ILB,OLB (edge), DL and CB coaches with him.

Mason is a solid DC no doubt but I personally prefer a scheme thats more aggressive up front. Especially with the type of athletes we typically get on the DL. That said, cant say it would be a bad hire. Im sure he is heavy demand

Harsin was never in play for any of the WC jobs. He’s been evasive about his vaccination status, and that’s a no-go for Washington and Oregon.

He also has the full support of the Auburn AD. He’s in no rush to leave there.

Mario's coordinators and assistants hiring's or soon to be hiring's have been disappointing compared to what Napier is putting together in Gainesville :(

They also can’t fire him right now, they’re paying him $5.25mill per & he’s already earned an incentive bonus for getting them to be bowl eligible this year, his buyout is $17.5mill if they fire him without cause & simple dissatisfaction with his record in year 1 isn’t a just cause lol

Plus they just paid $21.5mill to fire Gus Malzahn, it would be a retarded move to fire Harsin this early, especially because no coach worth their weight in salt would wanna go to program that unjustly fires a coach after one year.

The issue with KD is he is unknown as an OC and the #1 agreed upon thing in the coaching debate either Mario vs Lane or Mario’s coming get on board, was and is - he MUST hit on both OC and DC. Dorsey being an unknown, leads people to question the potential hire when we have the budget to go big game hunting.

Let’s see how it plays out.

I'm not sure Derek Mason would be an A+ slam dunk hire, but he'd be a solid hire. He had some pretty **** good defenses at Stanford. YPP in the Top 20 both years as a DC. Improved Auburn's YPP from 60th in 2020 to 34th in 2021.

To be fair, Vandy had some terrible defenses (save 2015), but its Vandy.
