Between playing QB at Miami, coaching QB's and offense in the NFL, and being on the headset for nearly every play on every staff he's never worked on, as well as working on the game-plans, calling play in practice, working on play-calling with mentors and on his own, and calling plays in his head during the game, KD probably has about 15,000-25,000 play-calling reps. Ken was audibling for the Canes as a QB back in the beginning of the century.

You all act like he's fresh out of the box or that no one knows what his play-calling abilities are. There is a REASON he's in line for one of the only 32 NFL OC jobs on Earth, and why owners, coaches and GM's are ready to risk tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars worth of success on his abilities. Checkers is boring fellas. Expand your views. Football brains like KD don't come around that often. He is a scarce commodity with very hiis agh upside.
I think the reservation by some including myself on KD is that we don't what offensive system that is associated with him. What is his offense going to look like...is it wide open? Are we going back to two WR's and a fullback pro bro offense?
There is apprehension on going back to a more conservative offense. IM NOT SAYING KD WOULD run that but I also have no clue what a KD offense would look like. Maybe there is some information out there that would shed some light into what he would run. I would like to see that and I think that would help. JMO

It’s weird people are cool with this possible hire but freak out on Ken.

Tbh I’m ok with both because I hear the same takes on each guy, Players at Uga think very highly of Schuman, super smart football guy and he was actually considered the smarter coach out of him and Lanning. He’s the kind of coach that’s always finding tells by the offense. Super smart football nerds rarely fail. Mason is my plan A though, if I could have any realistic dc in cfb he would’ve been my choice.

Mason is a two gap guy.

I like Mason, I've met him in person before and he's a great down to earth guy. What makes him so high up on your list? Just curious

Lots of reasons but like I said in this thread “ I like smart football people”.

I also like coaches that’s coached multiple positions. Mason has coached Db’s, wr’s, rb’s and even special teams. On top of being Ahc and a DC. He’s literally touched every part of the game.

On top of that he’s a great dc. He brings a toughness to every defense he’s coached.

Even his Vandy teams were hard nosed and physical. I always came away impressed by those teams.

His defenses at Stanford were everything you’d expect. He fits exactly the mind set Mario wants and what this program needs. A no nonsense teacher. And yes , he can recruit.

I don’t care if he’s a two gap or a one gap coach, there’s more than one way to skin a cat , plus this guy actually has a resume of success, unlike Al and his boyfriend .

Lastly it’s always a positive to have former head coaches on staff. From position coaches to Coordinators or even analysts.

The fact that you had to add a bunch of question marks to your post should give you pause. You have no idea. So why fill in the blanks with your worst nightmare? You really think KD is beholden to only one offensive philosophy? You think he won't tailor an offense to the level of play (CFB vs. NFL), personnel (especially with a QB like TVD), and what HE would want to do if it were HIS call? You don't think Ken f'ing Dorsey would want to air it out? The point it, you haven't a clue.

And you don't think Mario would know the answer to all these questions before he hired him?

Just because you and the board don't KNOW doesn't mean you should be "against" him. People here are committing a classic leadership mistake. Making assumptions and acting on them even though they are admittedly misinformed. Be thoughtful.

Then again, the world needs ditch-diggers too, I guess.

I agree he's a really good coach. As an Auburn alum he drove me crazy at times because he wasn't as aggressive. He can be aggressive though, and he's a highly intelligent guy. And he stands on what he says/teaches. Wouldn't have any problem sending my kid to play for him. Really stand up guy. Had a daughter in school up your way Crib.

Kirby Smart announced Lanning will only be coaching OLBs for the playoff. I’d assume he doesn’t want Lanning being distracted with Oregon to get in the way of game prep. Schumann and Muschamp are co-DCs starting in the playoff.
Why is a cool fact about 2022 is that Oregon and Georgia play one another in the season opener. Crazy.

That game he called against Bama was a thing of beauty. It’s too bad their rb fan out of bounds or they’d win and he’d gotten crazy love for that performance. I mean Bama was shut out for almost three full quarters.

He can be a tad conservative but after watching Mannys feast or famine , no discipline shemar this would be a nice change.

Every day it goes I believe it gives Dorsey that much better of a shot.

Wednesday Oregon plays. Arkansas is New Years. Should start hearing here soon.

Talk of Oregon guy being run coordinator. Then we’d need a pass coordinator. IF Briles isn’t announced by 1/2 I say it’s KD.

Do we have a prayer with Mason? I find it hard to believe he would leave Auburn.

I feel like he would be a tad more aggressive coaching under Mario, because that's what MC would want.

I am not filling in the blanks with my worst nightmare. I'm just stating that there is not point of reference as far as I can tell on what his offensive philosophy. I can't fill it with the worst and I can't fill it with blind optimism either. I did say that if there is information out there that she's light on that it would be greatly appreciated to give some reference.
Yes I am sure Mario would ask all those questions. That's kinda not the point of a discussion on a fan message board. All we are trying to do here is have conversations about how our offense would look like under KD. Regardless of who he hires I'll support it until I can't. In reality I don't give a flying fvck if they hire KD or not. It has zero effect in my personal life. I just hope for the best. Finally regarding your ditch-diggers comment...go fvck yourself.

I was told way before Mario was hired that if he was hired he’d make a run at Ken. They have a good relationship and Mario thinks very highly of his football knowledge. I’m just not sure if Ken would leave after putting in years of work and if looking like his career might be going to the next level.

Mario and it being Miami is the only reason we’d have somewhat of a chance. I don’t see any other college job he’d be interested in.

As of today I’d lean towards it being Briles, there’s just too much smoke there , if nothing happens by early Jan with KB then you’d have to think it’s a Nfl guy.
