Catch 22… all this money to hire an OC but that OC has to live up to the money he’s making.. and there’s not a lot of sure things to choose from.

Then, when you rule out the philosophical differences that Mario doesn’t want such as Air raid there’s even less to choose from.
Why is he so anti- air raid when you have Van Dyke, Garcia, and potentially Nico going forward? Spread/air raid works.

Seems pretty obvious that Mario is willing to sacrifice a couple of recruits in a transition class, if it means getting his guys

Whether that's the right strategy is another discussion
Sacrificing a dude like Shemar Stewart is dumb AF imo. These are the kids that change your program. They dont grow on trees and they have a direct impact on future classes. Oh sh*t Shemar , Wesley, Kelly all chose Miami! So Did James Williams and Kinchens! That builds momentum. He has no excuses if he fumbles this.. Stewart was there for the taking.

Idk. Maybe he’s not but it’s been assumed that he’s not going to go the air raid route. I don’t see it either

I think it’s just the Oline background philosophical difference. We’re gonna have to learn to live with at as long as he’s here

Slightly different question on Mario's proclivity to take his time when hiring coaches.

Certain media members covering recruiting reported that the absence of coordinators is negatively impacting our recruiting efforts.

True or false?
The only recruit we’ve heard complaints about the lack of a coordinator is Stewart. Kelly and Moss signed up.

So it seems Mario is like you will have to trust me that I’ll get the best guy.

As of right now it will only cost him Stewart but that may be a convenient reason to not commit here. If we had a DC the excuse would be such a shame you guys came in too late.

I’ve seen this movie before. Hope I’m wrong.

I also think there are different kinds of "air raid" offenses too. If he's against the Mike Leach "throw it a million times and to **** with the consequences" I kinda agree, but there are many variations of pass-heavy offenses that run the ball effectively.

If everyone could respond to this I’d appreciate it.

I’d like to know which petard we’re hoisting Mario onto by day’s end. I have a long weekend ahead of me and I want to make sure I’m running with the angriest herd.

Coach Macho said it was concernjnf for Dorlus the Pac-12 transfer and Moten as well. Wouldnt be surprised if it affected Christen Miller too.

This assumes that he has to pick between hiring top coaches and landing top prospects.

If he truly does have to choose between the two, then yeah, it's more important to get the hires right.

But I highly doubt he has to actually choose between them. Every other coach at big time P5 programs have seemingly put together solid staffs (LSU, Oklahoma, UF) and are currently recruiting well.

Mario is just slow. He takes his time. He doesn't have to, but he prefers to, which is frustrating because we may lose out on some top talent due to his preference.

I generally agree with you

But for how much time has elapsed I wanted to debunk this notion that Mario has to “sacrifice recruits” in favor of “more time” to hire hire and find strong coaches

That argument makes sense if he was hired on 01/07/2022.

I’m sure at some point we will get some details on how things played out, but everyday that ticks off the benefit of the doubt gets diminished

Mario is on his own timeline I get it… but after a certain amount of time it does become a detractor

You forgot the 8th stage:
Hitting <F5> on your keyboard hoping for Rebirth.

Agree. Some have evolved into the best rushing offenses in the country (aside from the triple option offenses).

No, the only person you've heard is his sponsor, Coach Moe. As anybody heard anything from the kid?

I can assure you it doesn’t help. So status quo or it hurts.
I have no doubt this is true and I am sure that I am not the first person to say this, but I rather lose out on a few recruits this cycle and get the right coordinators rather than rushing a hire and then have poor results on the field for a year or two. Obviously the preference would have been to get a good Coordinator earlier, but that is not where we are.

I think most are in the anger and bargaining stage.

After NSD, it moves to depression.

We've heard from Stewart's handler publicly, if that's what you mean, but other posters have pointed out multiple other prospects that would have considered us if we had coordinators (JayCane, Macho).

So Ponce or Coen?
