. Another factor in all of this that hasn’t been specifically mentioned—TVD. Caleb Williams is sitting in the portal and his new OC is Jeff Lebby, who is levels above Ponce. If I’m TVD and I have the chance to be a top 10 NFL pick, am I sticking around at Miami and putting my NFL prospects in the hands of Ponce or some other Plan B guy of that level? Probably not.

Mario isn’t stupid and knows this is probably his most important hire. The Candle offer shows he wants someone with experience calling plays, which Ponce lacks so hard to see him being a real option.

That being said, I don't know how you fill an entire staff and somehow convince a DC/OC to come without have a say in that.
