Update from ND 247

“Regarding the defensive coordinator search, I’m told the four names in play are Houston defensive coordinator Doug Belk, Minnesota defensive coordinator Joe Rossi, Boston College defensive coordinator Tem Lukabu and Cincinnati Bengals linebackers coach Al Golden. These are the four candidates to now and the ones Freeman has been staying in touch with.”

Y'all on here actin like there's some sort of cutoff as to when coaches would consider leaving a current job for a better opportunity. Trust me, when you're willing to pay dude $1.7M to be a coordinator there will be plenty of dudes who are currently employed elsewhere having their agents reach out on their behalf to express interest. Likely guys you haven't even thought of or heard about yet too. Let Mario take his time and do this right or else end up with an Enos or a Blake Baker if that's what you want.

One of these names stands out to me for some strange reason.
It’s as if I had a memory erased due to some sort of trauma. Maybe some of y’all can help me out.
Who TF is Al Golden?

Lmaoooo the old end up with Enos or Blake too fast argument. Fast or slow, Blake was a bad hire. It didn't matter when he was hired. You guys keep equating time taken on decision to qualify the hire. Waiting longer doesn't equal great hires. Keep spinning tho

I skipped straight to the quoted part and about swallowed my tongue and then I reread the "Update from ND 247" part

Lmao at the end of the update the mod goes into depth about Golden and how he would love to represent a program like Notre and even put down some quotes from ppl that have coached with him.

-“Man, the guy is fiery. He’s passionate. He’s a great defensive mind,” said one source on Golden. “He also does great work in the home with kids.”

“He’d be a great hire for a variety of reasons,” said another source on Golden. “First, he’d be a former head coach who has been through it all and he could aid Marcus in a lot of ways as he gets his feet under him. I can’t tell you how important that is and how valuable that would be. Secondly, he’s very well-liked and a well-respected coach by just about everyone you speak with. I mean that. He’s someone that people have always enjoyed working with. I also think he’d kill it with the ND logo on his polo.”

Things are still fluid when it comes to this role, so we’ll see where Freeman decides to go. My way-too-early feeling is here to keep a very close eye on Golden for the job. But in digging around, all four of the candidates would do well in this role. However, the more I hear about continuity and consistency, as well as the positive comments regarding Golden, to me, he’s the most intriguing option of all because like Freeman, he could be in it for the long haul and that’s a major plus for the future of the program.
