The deal he’s gonna sign with Arkansas won’t be close to what we were gonna pay Candle. $2-2.5M range.

He’ll get $1.2-1.4M from Arkansas if I had to guess. Lots of room in those numbers
Wow. Glad to see Miami was willing to pay that much for a top-tier OC.
I know we have a much bigger assistant salary pool, but I didn't think we'd get to the $2M+ range for coordinators. Nice to see

I really appreciate all your info and insights @JayCane20 !

I think with Candle he knew the money was good, living in Florida would be good but after sleeping on it he couldn’t get past the thought of taking a “temporary” step back to step forward.

Like someone said it’s hard to go from telling others what to do to being told what to do. Mentors step in get to calling and probably say “be patient, your time will come”. Lol

Was ambitious to try and get a G5 HC to come here and be OC instead. Especially ambitious given our track record over the last 15 years.

One positive thing to note: if we're looking at guys like Candle and Briles, we're going in the right direction imo. Those are the types of offenses, production, and experience I wanna see in our next OC.

Something's off with this. You just don't go through this entire process and get a phenominal compensation package and just decide at the last minute you really want to stay at Toledo. If that's the case then he was never coming to begin with.

Someone turning down a job Doesn’t necessarily mean ****. Why do some of you take it as a knock on the school/admin/Mario? If it ain’t a good fit for either one, good, move on to the next…..you guys have some deep rooted Cane complex that we deserve ****. Wait it out, dude is thorough, why ranked on that. Last we all checked, he has had a good record making exceptional hires. FvCK this Toledo ****. Maybe he’s scared of the Miami pressure that came with the gig, we wouldn’t want that. That said, maybe we have coordinators by the start of Fall practice lol.
I wouldn't say it's that big of a deal either IF Mario gets the hire right. The fact that we don't hear about other schools being turned down is a lil concerning no matter how you try to spin it.

Don’t think Mario wants Briles because of the simplicity of the OL play in that system. Takes away from his recruiting specialty and his baby.

Chance remains he could come in and reinvent his offense with what Mario wants to do with the OL but that’s why I’ve been hesitant on Briles the whole time.

I think it goes another direction. But Briles ‘would’ take the job if he was actually offered

Forget about clock management.

As a fan, what did you think of his offenses?
Although a moot point now since it looks like he is staying at UT, I have generally liked them. Like any other fan I get frustrated at certain play calls (most often 3rd and long situations with Candle) but you can't argue with his results. I have watched some explosive offenses at UT over the years. Especially when he had weapons like Logan Woodside, Kareem Hunt, Dionte Johnson, and Cody Thompson.
