We'll all know the truth once an OC is named. If it's Candle, Dorsey, Brady, or anyone else more qualified than Briles, we'll know this was all a ploy. If it's clearly a guy we settled for, then the rejection is possibly legit. But as I've said, the timing seems fishy and too familiar to the Nunez stunt.

Briles is arguably the most qualified OC of that group. Brady skyrocketed to fame with a couple great years at LSU but only lasted 2 years in the league. Dorsey hasn't been an OC and Candle is at Toledo as HC/OC.

To be clear, I'm not saying Mario should take Briles over any of the other options. Just that if he does hire someone else, Briles' camp could still spin it that he turned Miami down, not the other way around.

Here’s my line of thinking on the OC if anyone cares…

I know Candle is far and away option number 1

Mario was signed/sealed/delivered to Miami but it dragged out an entire weekend and into Monday so he could address his team.

Toledo returns to campus today I think - keeping it under wraps gives Candle time to address his team and staff in person. Mario probably wouldn’t hire him unless he felt the same way and wanted to do that for his guys.

Jimmy Sexton got wind of it going down - used it as a last chance effort to get a raise for Briles.

This is all me trying to piece together what is happening. Not putting a stamp on this saying it’s exactly what happened.

To be fair, McMurphy in particular has really raised the bar for "leaks from a biased source packaged and tweeted out as properly-sourced" reporting during these last few months. It's telling that the guys who have been on-point this CFB hiring cycle didn't piggyback at all, they just left poor Brett alone on his ******, unsourced island.
Bingo. Great point. I’m not a huge Feldman guy but his silence was deafening.

this is also obvious just from the order in which the reports have come out, and from which reporters. after weeks of speculation, Briles is suddenly offered, and then with one hour turns down, the OC job the day after a credible report comes out of Miami targeting another candidate. what a coincidence!

This was a ploy that worked perfectly by the best agent in the game. Agents talk and he knew Miami was likely close to pulling the trigger on the oc.
When this all ends you gotta tell us the other G5 HC that had interest (was shown interest) in the job.

Yes, you use outdated stats. Like somebody in baseball that hates OBP and prefers batting average.

The rankings were the F+ ranking, which is a combination of S&P+ and FEI, which are two of the more respectable analytic models.
Ok, Skip Bayless

Possibly, but I'm not sure I'd argue Briles is more qualified than Candle. That dude has been running an efficient offense at Toledo for a decade. Plus when you consider last night's report that Candle was the target and THEN Briles, if he is indeed the hire, it's clear that we didn't offer Briles.

Question! So why don’t schools/coaches come out and say “I never offered _______ the OC/DC position”.

Am I being petty? Because if I was a coach/school you’re not about to get any shine off me especially from a lie while making me and my program. Now if I legitimately offered and you turned it down I’d just take the L as part of the business.

This is what I thought when I saw the Briles tweet. He's been tweet pro-arkansas stuff for days. For him to do that, and then leave would look terrible.

It seems like a last ditch effort to get a raise
