Did the guy suddenly have a change of heart after seeing the ineptitude of Manny, or was it simply a smokescreen rumor?

No idea. But he was tied to Manny during his time at Texas. It made sense at the time. But it probably was a smoke screen given how sure Stefan was about the leak.

I relayed a story that was told to me by players that played for him.

I reread that so you’re good. However you did allow what was essentially gossip to form an unwarranted and negative opinion of the dude’s intelligence. You seem pretty knowledgeable about football and coaches so you obviously do your research. His record belies the gossip is just the point I’d like to make. How effective he is as an OC is another question.
