I would love balance. Would make the passing game more lethal. Just have my doubts unless our OL is vastly improved this coming season.
That's the pertinent question. We know under Mario the trenches on both sides will be made the priority. Will he be able to do this with this team? Depends on the transfers and recruits he picks up but it looks like that will be a focus in the off season.

That aint the point. Will Mario lean into something that isn't the strength of the team just for the sake of balance? If the team's best attribute is TVD throwing the ball why would you limit those chances and let the opposing defense off the hook? This isn't the late 90s-mid 2010s NFL.

Alabama threw the ball 44 times coupled with three Bryce Young runs and ran it 22 times with running backs against Georgia. Does anyone believe Cristobal would be willing to take that approach or would he want a more even split simply because he believes in running the football? We're gonna spend money like we want to win titles. The HC has to be someone who understands how to do that. Hopefully he learned more from Saban than just his recruiting plan. Saban will adapt his philosophies and do what it takes.
Because football is football. The gimicky stuff doesn't last. If you payed attention, Mario is our coach not sabag.. You're discrediting Rooster and Franklin when they're more than capable of carrying some of the offensive weight. You just want to push your agenda...

Whatever Mario and his coaching staff do going forward, I'm not sure why people are arguing about what happened in 2019. It was real.

Strangely though, despite insane tools at 6-6 and 236 pounds with a live arm and effortless athleticism, in 2019 Oregon restricted Herbert, making him a secondary piece of the offense and focusing on running the football and playing sound defense. Think about that for a second. Oregon had a legitimate contender to be the No. 1 overall pick at quarterback, and had no qualms about placing him in the background of the offense. But, from a team perspective, the philosophy worked. The Ducks went 12-2 and won the Rose Bowl.

But it completely confounded the draft community. Why would Oregon schematically limit Herbert's importance? Why was Herbert playing so conservatively? Where were the deep strikes? The awesome throws while on the move? The long scrambles? Why are they running on third and long?

It's over, though. Let's see what Mario chooses to allow his OC to do with Tyler Van Dyke.

Maybe it's about the team not the individual? If Hebert wanted to be showcased. He could've transferred...

It's always about the team. Sometimes individuals need to be showcased for the betterment of the team. Look at how TVD made us look. If and when Mario selects an OC who builds his offense around TVD (and then Garcia) and allows our best players to maximize our collective offensive potential, the [seemingly fair] Herbert mentions will go away. Till then, people are worried the issue will be repeated. It happens. I believe (maybe hope?) Mario learned from the experience.

To each their own. I just want Ws....

That’s why Herbert had the most passing attempts, yardage, and TDs of his college career his senior year? Some of you just talk without checking yourselvesView attachment 169769
His senior year - Herbert averaged 30 attempts and 250 yards per games. If you take into consideration Herbert's arm talent - ya it would not be a stretch to consider him under used.

Cristobal has been in his ear about staying closer to home and Brandon Inniss is listening.

“I feel good about them. I like what they are telling me so far. I can’t wait to see how they run their offense,” Inniss said. What that looks like is to be determined, but Cristobal is making it known that he expects South Florida’s top receiver to be excited about it.

“All I heard was that I’m going to like it,” Inniss said.
Who knew the flying wedge would excite WRs so much?

I am 100% confident we have a **** of a lot better coach than we had a month ago. Let him and his staff coach some games here before nit picking. I think some here are still butt hurt because Manny got fired.
If they're choosing a corch over team? They can wallow in misery...

Considering how good Herbert is in the NFL I think you can make the case that, while 12-2 is good, not properly utilizing Herbert prevented them from playing in the playoffs and potentially winning a title. But obviously that's just a wild guess.

It's okay to be critical of some of Mario's decisions with the hope that he learns from it and gets better. Others have stated this but OC is definitely the most important hire. Need Mario to really be comfortable with opening up the offense and letting TVD eat.

We go back to Mario focusing on the trenches. We're not going to be all finesse with a trench bully as HC...
We'd be stupid to try to play trench bully football without trench bullies.

Now in a couple of years once you have the pieces in place, then by all means. Until then, you play with the players you have, not the ones you wish you had.

But the conclusion to that article is "it worked". I think the main issue is what will Mario do with this team. But if he has to showcase an individual it probably means compensating for weakness in some other aspect of the team.

I do think he does want to build towards a team made in his image. That means hard nosed and tough in the trenches.

Like i said to each his own. I prefer a balanced offense. I'm not worried about what the QB is going to do in the pros. I just care what hapoens in orange and green. The way things have been going? Ill take 12-2 with TVD going in the 2nd round all day....
