I think he is a good dc but not 2m good. Paying that type money you have to be elite and I don’t see elite. And I don’t want to waste a guy like Taylor having him eat up blocks when that’s not his game.
There’s not many better than him out there. So yes , I’d pay him two million. That’s what one of the best coordinators get.

Auburn defense was ranked 57th. That’s not good enough for 2m. Clemson had no offense and venebales still had that defense at 9th. Then he would be coming here trying to run a defense that we don’t have the bodies up front for. I just don’t see 2m for him.
After this seasons coaching carousel, I think assistant coaches salaries are going to go way way way up. If a strong P5 program wants a decent DC or OC they’re probably going to have to pay up big time.

$2m will still be a hefty amount but it won’t be the exception anymore.

The man has never had a top 15 defense in his career. Maybe he could do it at bigger programs with more talent but his auburn defense was average this year

He sounds like a good option from what I’ve read in this thread, but these are some good points you are making.

He is a good coach don’t get me wrong. And I dont think he would ever put a terrible defense out there if he was here but I don’t know if it would be good enough to justify 2m+.

Wouldn’t Mason have a buyout from Auburn as most coordinators have multi year contracts? He also has a buyout from Vandy that was likely 6-9m. Not sure it’s worth it to pay a buyout on another coach at the level his probably is from Auburn. Schumann makes half of what he does right now doesn’t he?

Mason has run multiple schemes throughout his whole career, its not that he has one scheme that he sticks to, he adjusts based on the personnel he has.

We will two-gap anyway, its part of the Odd front. I dont see why people are so against it, every top defense does it.

As far as experienced guys I would take muschamp. Has experience coaching LBs where is mason is more of a DB guy and we don’t need that many DB coaches. He is a great recruiter on defense and plays a attacking style. And it would match up in the secondary with T-rob.
If we’re being unrealistic that’s a good name. But he’s not leaving his alma mater while coaching his son.

I judge defenses with my eyes not rankings. Other than Miss St and maybe Uga the defense played well. Even Uga got away fast. I still can’t wrap my head around what happened in the fourth quarter against MSU. That was just crazy.

Go watch that Bama game and tell me that’s not top shelf stuff. When’s the last time Alabama was shut out in three quarters? Ten points in regulation. If Auburns rb stays in bounds it’s likely only 3 points.

Against a top O-Line and the Heisman winner.
