No but a young Tim Wakefield was one of my favorite players on the Pirates and one of the Niekro Bros actually coached my cousin's softball team in Tampa for a season or two. I think it would be a good pitch to teach a kid but I think you might also blow out his arm.
I remember when Charlie Hough threw a one -hitter for the Marlins with like nothing going over 65 mph.

******** around. 2 and 4 seam, slider, and curve was all I needed.
It’s all in the grip. With the right choke on a split it could create movement similar to either…. Wobble of the typical knuckleball or dive down inside at the hitter.

If it was easy to do it consistently and disguise it, we’d be in the HoF part of the thread.

Btw - I loved mussina..

I’ve screwed around with both, not as a pitcher in a game, but just throwing it around. Weirdest motions ever. Whether it’s that turn inside of the screwball or the way you push out the knuckleball, guys that throw those pitches must’ve practiced like crazy, and I don’t know how guys that used to throw screwballs don’t blow their arms out, but nobody throws screwballs anymore. I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen one thrown in an actual major league game. In fact I first heard about screwballs from my grandfather who was in the minors for a while

Hahaha. I’d recommend anyone to watch it but I don’t know if that sits in the goats. Sort of like Bad Santa of XMas movies. Must watch but its probably not making the list lol.
Blasphemy.....next your going to tell me Die hard is not a xmas movie.

When we first got the Marlins Charlie Hough was at a fan event with some of the original Marlins and he was firing that thing off. I remember watching his knuckleball and thinking what in the **** is this? He was old, frumpy, threw a wild slow ball…but **** that thing worked. The other pitcher whose name escapes me who remade his career recently with the Phillies and a knuckle had a decent one but Charlie’s was impressive to me.

Fernando Valenzuela had a killer screwball

Hahaha. I am. I’m a purist. I literally have a Santa suit I wear to make some folks smile. My favorite time of year. I will forever look at Die Hard as a great movie but that fact it was on Xmas doesn’t make it a Xmas movie. I’ve had this fight a few times. It’s good talk.

Ive always said it would be good hires , all the names made me happy. I judge on bad , average to good.
Any Hall of Fame without Bonds, McGuire, Clemens, Sammy, and Palmeiro is no HOF. These guys all were all-time great players at their positions, and they carried baseball and brought it back from the doldrums. Selig threw all of these guys under the bus to save himself from the scandal, but he knew that steroid use was rampant across baseball for years, and did nothing about it because it would have been bad for business.

If we’re going to keep anyone that ever did illegal substances out, then a bunch of the old timers would have to be expelled from the HOF for using methamphetamines.

Catching up after a long day at work. It's definitely an outside of the box hire but I like how Mario is thinking.

I know he'll get a lot of flack for hiring Barry Bonds as the OC but idk, I can see it working.

Judging by the other posts it seems like Sammy Sosa and Mark McGuire are the other top candidates for DC? Can someone confirm?
Don't forget Big Pappi for ST coach,..hear its a homerun hire!

You're out of line with this take. A lecherous, grown alcoholic man posing as a mall Santa to rob department stores w/ his shady, black midget elf sidekick while casually spouting profanity at a half-witted child who he eventually starts to develop feelings for?? That's an A+ ******* Christmas film. All day, every day.
