I am from down here and just got out of high school a couple years ago so I know what I am saying. When you grow up down here and live in certain areas all you are told your whole life is to get out of here as soon as you have a chance and with these kids some of the things they see only makes them want to even more. That's why you see a good majority of kids from here leave when they get a good chance. Just a thought for you guys. This is not the case for every kid but from what I have dealt with it's a good amount

You're not the only one who grew up in a bad area of South Florida. The idea is to get out of the bad area that you're living in. That doesn't include just getting out of Overtown, Opa Locka, etc... and going up to Gainesville or whatever place you want to name.

Not an excuse. I have lived in Homestead right by Tyrique and thegrove in a duplex of 2 rooms with 10 ppl. I also went to school in little Havana. Oh and Im an immigrant. Im still here in college. People need to realize that Coral Gables isnt liberty city.

OP has a point to a degree. I graduated in ‘05 and lived in Richmond Heights and everyone around me basically said “If you don’t go to the U get TF outta Dade”. For a D1 scholly in the MAC and bounced. But the U is different. I would have up a ******** to play in the Orange and Green. But everyone isn’t made that way or “love” the U like that.

No I agree with you I live right by south ridge but as I said in my experience with the people in my area they tell all the kids to get out of Florida. And the bags other schools can drop help that even more. I'm saying for the cases like Nunn where his family is pushing him to escape Florida I understand his situation. There are alot of kids that have the same th

Grew up in Naranja and Homestead as well. Comparing the areas (to Coral Gables) isn't even close.

This is my point and with the kids today alot of them are only now seeing Miami be good for the first time. So the statement go to the u or get out of Florida took a good blow cause Miami was not good majority of their life to the point

Yet SC is in the middle of Compton and they don’t have a loyalty issue. Smh.
USC is in the hood but not Compton. And ain’t Compton gentrified now?

Going to coral gables is still staying in Miami. They’re being told to leave he city as a whole and sometimes the state.

Kids in every impoverished neighborhood in the country want to leave. How many can do that, stay home so their family can see them, get an education at a great private school and play for one of the most stories programs in CFB history, though?

The reason why people may want to leave is if they feel they do not have any opportunities here, and perhaps there may be better opportunities somewhere else. But, we are talking about full scholarships to the U. With that, you don't need to get out of South Florida. You will have a lot of opportunities more forward whether your football career is successful or not. Added bonus is family and friends are here for support in times of need.

We suck is why they leave!!! Look at the close last year when we looked like we were on the come up! We also had them all lined up until after the Virginia game just like any smart person would do. This is at what most of would do!

There’s some truth to that....plus in Athens, Tuscaloosa and those other hick towns they get to be Kings and get treated like royalty while down here they’re just another fish in a big pond

Gainesville is a sh*thile

Then on they flip side, you have a kid like Demetrius Jackson who's from Overtown (like me), one of the roughest neighborhoods in the country, who stayed home to build the community and not abandon it, he stayed to make a difference in Overtown.

I understand some kids want to get out, but some like Demetrius want to help and build to make it better. I respect that kid.
