Manny Navarro spoke with Stewart's coach at Pace since he returned from his OV at LSU.
• Why did national recruiting experts for 247Sports flip their crystal ball predictions for top-rated, five-star local recruit Shemar Stewart from LSU to Miami over the weekend? Because Stewart’s “official visit to LSU had its ups and downs,” Monsignor Pace coach Mario Perez told The Athletic.
“That’s what I know, what I heard,” Perez continued. “There was a six-hour layover in Houston and a delay on their way there. When they went to go through the photoshoot for the uniforms, they forgot to put his stuff out.”
Still, Perez warned not to rule out the Tigers. He also said not to assume a couple of fun days at Miami last week won Stewart over. There are plenty more visits for him to make.
“He loves coach (Ed) Orgeron. He thinks he walks on water,” Perez said of Stewart. “The thing about Miami for Shemar is that he’s very attracted to his peers. So he had an opportunity to go and hang out with his peers for a couple of days, go hang out in a dorm and be him. Remember, (Miami freshman safety) James Williams started out at (Monsignor) Pace with Shemar.
“But anybody who tells you that he’s leaning this way or that way, they’re sticking their finger up in the air and telling you whatever they think. It’s not based on fact. It’s like the Bachelor. Is there an ugly girl in that competition? No. You love the one that’s kissing you at the time. (Tuesday) he’s at Ohio State. Thursday, he’s at Notre Dame. Monday, he’s at Florida and then Georgia and Florida State and Clemson and South Carolina and Alabama.”
