Shalala Setting Tone Pre UF Game

I'd say 75 mil could have done a fine job making that bowl suitable for college football. ***** the rich and their box seats or whatever else they wanted so someone else could pamper them. These **** big businesses always looking for tax payers to foot the bill. The school brought in billions, some of that money could have been used to upgrade and a long term contract could have been put in place way the **** before a baseball team was even thought of. A massive tax write off to the U! They sure and **** have no problem over charging kids to go there, do they? The football team pays for all of UM sports and more, they should have done something better. No i never finished college, i think it's one of the biggest con jobs in this country, nothing but robbing this generation blind.

She made the decision to move out of the Orange Bowl, right? I'd say that has something to do with it!
I would have rather sit in that old rusty broken down stadium that had character than the piece of garbage they play in now! That's all!

Which has what to do with Shalala?

Honest question: what do you think were Shalala's options? Do you believe she could have "made the decision" to stay in the OB, and then the politicians of the city of Miami would have said "well, ok Donna, you're the boss; we'll make it happen"?

Do you not recall the fact that Shalala had brokered a deal whereby UM would put up a significant sum of cash (I think it was in the 50-75 mil range) if the city would agree to renovate the OB? Do you not recall the city initially agreeing to that deal, and then backing out of it a couple years later? Do you not recall the plans for a possible side-by-side multi-sport complex, with a renovated OB on one side and a new Marlins stadium adjoining it? Do you not recall the city backing out of that deal too?

What do you think Donna should have done? Should she have tried to buy the OB outright from the city? Even though the city obviously wouldn't sell, as they wanted to put the Marlins stadium there instead?

How could anyone hate Shalala?

1. They are the type that cannot possibly like someone because they have a different political affiliation than themselves

I can possibly like someone who has a different political affiliation.

2. They believe that the UNIVERSITY of Miami is a pro-football program above and beyond everything else
[The UNIVERSITY of Miami IS a university, it is not a pro-football program and it is silly to suggest "they" believe so, this needs no further explanation.
In sum, they are usually the most ignorant types of Miami "fans"
1+2 does not add up to your sum.
Thanks for the banal and vapid characterization. Maybe you should also throw in folks that don't like hobbits. Always good to hear from the folks up on the summit.
So then why do you not like Shalala, assuming you don't, and assuming you don't fit into either of the two prongs? I'm all ears.

Thank you for assuming I don't fit into your model. So you see, you are capable of engaging someone you disagree with. Insofar as Ms Shalala, the hate word is over the top, she seems to be a delightful little hobbit. I'm just not so spring-loaded to be one of the cool kids. And I think a great university could probably do better.

You're ignoring the 600 lb banana eating gorilla in the room - the OB was owned by the city of Miami and they did what they wanted to with it. Now it's the worst attended new stadium in baseball history. One yr later it's practically the worst attended MLB team. And then the Marlins ask UM to use the stadium? **** the city of Miami and **** the Marlins.

That's where you should be directing your blame

#38 two years ago, #44 last year, #47 this year. Why are they going the wrong way? Nothing wrong with being #47, but that doesn't look like a desired trend.

My God the amount of dumb and out right idiocy in this thread is truly mind numbing. Someone of you truly should truly just be seen and not heard.

As someone else already said, the OB was owned by the city--THEY were in charge, not UM. Shalala couldn't do anything without their approval, and they clearly wanted UM out of the OB.

If you can't understand that, maybe you should have gone to college.

I'd have to agree the city is at least half to blame, they are just as corrupt if not more than the colleges. Cops, firemen and many other city people robbing the tax payers blind. Making more than the governor of the state. Retiring with 90% pay after 20 years in with cola's every year, massive drop scams, almost free HC, ect, ect. Nothing but a bunch of criminals, just like the ones who run colleges. Teachers making hundred's of K's, retiring as early as 55, don't give two ***** if my generation spent 8 years sitting in a class room picking their nose, they are scamming the kids going to college now. People need to wake up and get rid of these over paid thieves in their cities, the colleges will price themselves right out of jobs sooner than later.

Go to college, i retired at 26 on my own dime, didn't need some boob to show me how to make money.

well when you look at the short term, that looks bad, but when you see that we were #67 when she was hired, it shows great improvement. also, alumni giving/endowment plays a huge part in the rankings and our momentum campaigns brought in a ton more money those years.

you are 1000% correct and you may even hurt some uppity peoples feelings. Whatever you do, do not state that football is more important than player grades and enrollment standards

Not even close. PEople don't like her because she worked for Clinton and is a Democrat.

same reason some folks liker so much...works both ways

I think it's more like a 85/15 Repub/Dem split for those who base their decision on politics. Either way dumb arguing with dumb.

So for those who say she's bad for athletics what should she do with Morris? Fire a guy in obvious decline but who brought UM two championships and into the post-season for 19 straight yrs?

Politics and diatribes against education and public servants...gotta love the Miami football message boards and interwebs. So much stupidity, so little time to read it.

This!
Whatever you do, do not state that football is more important than player grades and enrollment standards

But it isn't, and it never will be.
lol..do you post on The UM academic forum.. Do you attend student graduations and rabidly cheer for these scholars?
