Premature for sure. I will say this, playing scrubs like Ivey is entirely his fault, as is our subpar DB recruiting this year.
Sure. It is early in his tenure here but if there’s one thing this fan base knows is how to spot a corch, given the unbelievable amount of ones we’ve employed. All the evidence to this point via recruiting & now thru 2 cupcakes on the schedule point to red flags of his ability to do the job with excellence & to be able to lift the floor of an under performing room.
It was no secret the DB’s were an issue last year. The only addition was a rotational corner with 1 career interception. Quality depth was needed but we needed another impact player. Ivey continues to play despite 4 seasons of tape that suggest he shouldn’t be. Even Stevenson has been a mixed bag thru 2 games. The regime/scheme change was supposed to help our corners, yet they seem to be stuck in the same cycle of inconsistency. This is a position of need that needs a high end talent infusion in the worst way, and we have 1 corner committed at the moment, seems like a solid prospect, but not the kind of kid that is going to step on the field day 1 & impact the group.
Twilight zone or not, the evidence is mounting. CB Recruiting has not improved under this new staff. We have a perception problem with CB’s & honestly deservedly so given our recent track record. The recruiting could be excused with a good on field product which can help change the narrative, but we aren’t getting that either. We will see how the season progresses on and off the field, but to be honest the current results leave much to be desired for.
