Samson Okunlola: My focus is on getting better, not whether I start or not

I'm glad he's sticking it out and continuing to trust Mirabal's process. Mirabal is the best of the best when it comes to development at this position, so Samson is setting himself up for long term success. He was obviously very raw coming into Miami and we all knew he wasn't going to contribute right away. Missing his entire all that time Freshman yet definitely set him back
Me too so glad he's sticking around getting that development, he keeps grinding he'll see plenty of snaps in 2025 and start at tackle in 2026

Idk how bad his injury was but during his freshmen season he was playing early I remember watching at TE against A&M. Think the knee derailed him a bit

Agreed. Bells feet are just too slow for me. Hate him at Left Tackle. We gave up a lot more pressures when Rivers got hurt.

I need Samson to dethrone Bell, asap.
Agree with you on Bell's feet. The feet on Samson were one of the biggest reasons I was so bullish on Samson coming out of HS. For his size, guys feet are nimble as ****. If he can get the strength up and keep the footwork, he'll be impossible to keep off the field.

His legs definitely look like tree trunks lol, he has the athleticism it’s probably all mental with him.

Agreed. I am hoping he hones his craft more in the off-season and takes a huge step in his development. He should move into Mirabal's house and watch film with him every night

NIL has skewed expectations so much.

OL has generally been a position where it is hard to plug-n-play from high school because of the strength disparity. Now, you got kids that need development bolting immediately because they don't get PT right off the bat. Glad he's keeping his chin in.

And we are about to go through this again with the 2026 class. We are in it for a lot of blue chip OL and it’s gonna be expensive. If you gotta wait 3 years for a return because a Mauigoa is a rarity

Miami fans (not you) who are concerned about our OL amuse me.

Of all the positions on the team... lol
Yeah definitely not concerned but you know that already

Like that Cantwell kid is an example. I could be way wrong but dude is gonna get PAID but looks like a couple years away from being good. It’s a tough position to balance the NIL stuff but I personally think we’ve done a good job with NIL and OL

Would be a phenomenal testament for this staff and more importantly the kid if he continued to work and trust this staff to develop him. As many have alluded to, NIL has skewed a lot of kids minds & they’re quick to leave for a quick buck. Yes, I understand things have changed and I’m not even upset at kids going to get their money but 10 years ago, an OL, even a 5*, starting in his 4th year, would have been perfectly ideal.

I’m not an OL coach, and obviously Mirabal/Mario know more about that position than I could even forget, but I don’t think he is built for inside. He is an OT all the way IMO, which means in 2026 he will be prime for one of those spots. If he can be the 6th guy this year, I think that would be a great spot for him heading into his RS-JR season in 2026. Of course I hope I’m wrong, would love to see him just straight up take that LG spot because again, it’d be a great pitch for this staff to put in their belt on the trail but he just screams OT to me and always has.

I hope he sticks it out, I really do. I know he has had opportunities to go elsewhere and could have played but good for him for trusting this staff to develop him and sticking with them. Also doesn’t hurt that he won’t get paid anywhere else like he is getting paid here, lol.

Yeah I was floored he stayed. Only because he likely had another big payday given his 5 star status and he’s been here where kids get developed at OL. Hope he stays because that LT job likely opens after Bell if he’s that good.
