I don’t think that’s how Mack meant his statement. I’ll stick up for the guy this time.

I see it all the time in the corporate world. Once some folks get to the top, or at least hit some level of financial comfortability, they stop doing the things they were doing that got them there….and this is done after they have developed the skills that got them there.

In this case, kids are getting money before they have put in the continued work to fully develop their skills.

People are people. So I’d rather be proven wrong. But the general statement I think has some truth. There will be some kids who perhaps will get a little fat and happy with their newfound wealth and lose that eye of the tiger.

I’m not trying to over analyze the statement. It’s about dang time these players get a cut. CFB is big business and lines the pockets of a lot of people. I still suspect most will not let the money deter them from working to reach their goals and being the best version of themselves.
thats fair, but if the market determines thats their worth so be it. if the kid can't get up to do what he needs to do, im pretty sure he wasn't gonna do it anyways w or without the NIL.

if it does, it does. pay them 1 mill for all I care. the rest is up to them
Agreed. These kids are already big shots on campus anyways, if they can’t handle some money then they aren’t ready for the big stage.

Basically none of these kids are equipped to handle this. And everyone has their hand in the kids’ pockets…parents, uncles, girls, high school coaches, 7 on 7 coaches, agents, car dealers, street agents, jewelers. I even heard a coach at an ACC school was taking kids’ money on side deals.

Man, most minor league ball players don't get paid squat. If it was about money, they'd be better off getting just about any job. Obviously there's perks of room and board, food, etc, but the pay is **** by and large with obviously some exceptions.

Advertising money is going down in 2023 after falling this year. PepsiCo could give two ***** about a high school football player!

Facts. You are talking about a international company that's making money hand over fist. I use to work for them many moons ago. The sugar water is one of the biggest mark(besides healthcare)

I remember we were sending 33 pallets a week of soda into Walmart. For perspective, a pallet of 12-packs is 200 cases. A case is 2 12-packs, 400 packs of soda on pallet. Pepsi don't need 18 to market for them.

the biggest profit makers for restaurants is soda

Eh. That ain’t the same really at all bro. Yes, kids just graduating HS get paid as MLB picks, but many of the picks are college players, Juco players already. And there’s only 30 picks per round for every kid in the country, and you only really get crazy bread in the first few rounds.

Now talk about 130 D1 teams taking 25-30 kids every year. Of course not every kid is getting 6 figures or more. Very few are. But I think the amount of money being thrown at HS football players right now is a lot more than HS baseball players. Look at the first round of the draft this year. Probably half HS kids and half college or Juco kids.

What about soccer? There are kids much younger than 18 making far more than any NIL deal, and these kids come from far worse circumstances than anyone in this country (slums of Brazil and Africa) and yet most seem to make it ok.

If these kids love football they’ll handle it fine. If not, they would have failed with or without NIL. There is no downside to these kids getting paid what they deserve given all they bring to the schools

Let’s even look at this from a broader perspective. Gatorade was started by UF scientists, true but it has been sold twice. Once in 83 to Quaker Oats and again to Pepsi in 2000. Now there was a deal made from the beginning where UF would make money off of the drink in perpetuity and I’ve attached an article that outlines that, but this idea that UF calls the shots whatsoever on marketing for Gatorade is absurd. Pepsi will do with Gatorade what they please with no input from UF.

Gatorade Royalties

this. im sure Pepsi will help UF out if they need it in terms of certain marketing but I doubt they'll sit there and shell out for an NIL deal to an unknown OL. OL are already unknown as it is and this kid is a HS OL that most of the country doesn't know or pay attention to

Did said ACC school do this to pay for urinals?

Nil is seriously going to ruin some of these kids, imagine having the will to get up at 5AM for extra workouts when your 18-20 years old and got 150K+ sitting in your bank account
This is really the worst argument for a country that you’re free market capitalism

Man, international soccer kids in academies are far more prepped than most high school kids here. They are in a meat grinder from the day they enter a teams academy. Non-stop grind, the elite teams have then live there, and its far more competitive than any high school in this country.

When they get called up to a senior team or put on loan somewhere, it's still dog eat dog and there's less spots available.

Yes, some get big time money, but that's in the big tier one leagues in the world. Drop down in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th divisions and it's kind of like the minors in baseball, but year round.

Money and youth, there's always the potential for disaster. Those international soccer players though, they're not coddled like our athletes in this country. You can't say what someone will do with money early on, but to dismiss the possibility of things going awry, I'm not going to do that.

You got that right. When they're done, it's really over. No one cries for them.
