Running up the score

One thing that's been on my mind these last 2 weeks is that Coach Golden always pulls back when up big. I know I know you guys are gonna say "well our players are gonna get injured!"

I'm not talking about with our 1st team offense. I think when our backups are in we should still be airing it out. How else are the backups going to get a REAL feel for game action. Coach keeps saying "I know what these teams feel like because that use to be me at Temple" but I'm sorry coach you shouldn't feel sorry for these dudes.

The only reason I say all this is because whether people want to believe it or not, style point DO matter. Most pollsters will look at the final score and see we won 49-21 and they might only move us up 1 spot in the polls. People didn't see that this game should've been a bigger blowout.

Anyways just wanted to get that off of my chest.

GO CANES!

Style points yes but then running up the score could very easily come back and bite you in the *** when you need an extra vote or two in the coaches poll but you got some salty *** coach who didn't like the fact that you ran up the score and places you team lower then he should of. Also keep in mind it had more to do with USF being an 0-3 awful team not so much the score (unless it would of been a close game) so we only go up a spot.

Golden clearly isnt into that. He was at temple he knows what its like being on the other end.

Whether we beat a team 49-21 or 77-21 isnt going to have much impact on votes.

and it also increases the chances of injuries. all you need to do is

1. win
2. show that you won convincingly

It wasnt that long ago that we were barely scoring 20 points.... We re averaging over 40 ... Be happy and let the rest of the season play out .... Go Canes

We were still pretty aggressive with the backups in.

Golden was letting Crow pass the ball (which was a fail), he put Ryan Williams back in and still called pass plays. We took a couple shots at the end zone. Defensively we were still blitzing.

We did what we were supposed to do. Golden's not the type to run it up with the starters, or tack on cheap FGs.

If we didn't give up a cheap TD with 2 seconds left we win 49-14 and this thread doesn't exist.

I honestly like what golden has done and is is doing
We could have scored 100 points on savannah state
Easily, but getting these back ups in allowing them to get a feel
For game speed and temple is good

I just don't know what running up the score does it can
Actually back fire and hinder you from staying with the process
Golden is doing a fine job with this team

In the second half I even saw our walk ons going against some if usf starters

We are doing a **** if a job in development I love watching this team

People really care about the score?

At the end of the day the goal is to be ranked in the top two in he nation, the more you win by, the more you rise, so yes the score does matter, I mean teams drop for winning close games to inferior competition

It is a long season. Keeping people healthy and getting into conference play fresh, is more important than dropping 70 on USF. Plus it gives kids reps in case they need o play in a meaningful game.

Interesting article in the Tampa Trib this morning where Golden says he may need to rethink taking his foot off the gas so early. Concerned about wrecking continuity. The man just gets it.

TAMPA — If the University of South Florida is at rock bottom, sitting at 0-4 under first-year coach Willie Taggart, Al Golden has a word of advice on how to turn a program around.

Before becoming the coach at Miami, Golden served in the same position at Temple, a team so hapless it was booted from the Big East.

In the three years before Golden’s arrival, the Owls were 3-31. Five years later, Temple finished the 2010 season 8-4, and Golden departed for UM.

After a superb first half against USF, en route to a dominant 49-21 win, Golden’s No. 15 Hurricanes started to take their foot off the pedal.

Golden declined penalties and continued to let backup quarterback Ryan Williams play. Eventually, he turned the team over to third-string quarterback Gray Crow.

USF found a bit of momentum in the second half, scoring a couple of touchdowns, while Miami’s offense started to stall.

The Hurricanes racked up 411 total yards in the first half, but only 129 in the second half.

“I think we took our foot off the gas in the third quarter, and I’ll be debating that for the next 24 hours, whether I should have done that or not,” Golden said. “It killed our continuity and led to a defensive touchdown for them. Then it starts to erode what you’ve already accomplished, which was 49 points without having to punt.”

If Golden regrets easing up and not continuing to push forward, it’s because aggressively sticking with his plan is exactly what helped him turn Temple’s program around.

“All I can say is what we did (at Temple),” he said. “We had a plan and stuck to it. We made sure we committed to a lot of guys that were doing things right and just stuck to the plan. That’s the bottom line. The only way you turn around a culture is to not flinch.”

USF will stick to Taggart’s plan. Sophomore

Steven Bench will remain the Bulls’ starting quarterback after a 13-for-27, 189-yard performance that leaves USF without a win heading into American Athletic Conference play.

This is a bad problem to have??

lulz

Just keep scoring more points than the other team, and everything will take care of itself

I honestly didnt think we would have this problem so early in Golden's tenure. The Don has done a great job and this team is developing nicely.
