*Rumor* Larkin declares/disputes rumor/Decision Sunday

It's official... Well, sort of....

Dad: Shane Larkin to enter draft

Miami sophomore guard Shane Larkin, a likely first-round pick, will declare for the NBA draft.

Larkin's father Barry, the Hall of Fame baseball player and ESPN analyst, said Friday that his son indicated to him he will announce his intentions to declare. Shane Larkin scheduled a Sunday 6 p.m. ET news conference at the university, but that could be moved up now that his decision is known.

Sunday is the deadline for underclassmen to declare for the draft. Under new NCAA rules, once a player officially declares he cannot return to school.

Larkin averaged 14.5 points, 4.6 assists and 2.3 turnovers in leading the Hurricanes to unprecedented ACC regular-season and tournament championships. The Canes reached the Sweet 16 before losing to Marquette.

Larkin was a front-runner for ACC player of the year honors, but the award went to Erick Green of last-place Virginia Tech. Larkin was named a second-team AP All-American.

Miami will be rebuilding next season under third-year coach Jim Larranaga. The Hurricanes also lose seniors Durand Scott, Trey McKinney-Jones, Reggie Johnson, Kenny Kadji and Julian Gamble.

Coach has a loy of work to do with transfers, recruiting and development.

Praise Jesus we are actually in good hands.

- Black and Rodriguez would keep production up

- Rion Brown needs to get his consistency going bc he has skills

- Garius Adams be ready for serious burn

- hopefully 1 euro PG and 1 big man (recruit) come into the class soon

And for some reason I feel like Deandre Burnett is going to come in and be an impact player.

He's Barry Larkin's kid???

In all seriousness I appreciate his attitude and effort last year not to mention all the thrills. Best of luck to him!!!:stormwarning:

LCF,

In all honesty, I wanted Burnett to be the shooting guard because he is more of a scorer then a passer. Even though he is shorter (6’0/6’1) than most SG he is a great scorer.

As for Rodriguez, I don’t know why he would get a waiver. Too be closer to home? Is that enough? Well let’s hope for it because we need him.

Elder, is an unknown. I expect him to redshirt (football) and join the team sometime in the fall. He is a really athletic kid and hopefully he could be the backup PG.

It's quite possible for Angel to get his waiver. The NCAA, outside of its management flaws, have been generous to other players if they still have 2 or more years of eligibility left. I do not want two freshman (Burnett and Corn) to handle the PG position, especially since the ACC with have more basketball muscle next year with the Cuse, ND, and Pitt.

I think coach L is going to groom Burnett into a PG. The guy can score with the best of them, but we need him to handle the rock. If Angel comes, Burnett will have at least 2 years under his belt before he takes over as a starter. I think he can still play some SG because there will be some times where we would need to go small. Our lack of depth with our bigs may force us into playing small-ball like Villanova did a few years ago.

Finally, the Euro PG you mentioned in another post would definitely help and may let Burnett play back-up SG behind Rion Brown. This would also let Davon Reed play behind G. Adams at SF. It's definitely going to be one of the years where coach L is going to have to mix and match players to get the best from this year's roster.

No one answered my question. Even if he redshirts in football, will Corn not join the b-ball team until January?

My guess is it would depends on what happens with the football team's situation at RB.
Specifically, if the RB unit is relatively healthy going into the season, I would guess that he could be released
to the basketball team by October/November.
If we have depth because of a run in injuries,etc....then I'm guessing he's football all the way until the season ends.
I think football drives the decision.
I also think this kid is ultimately a CB.

He would very likely redshirt for football. He's too small to play RB at the D1 level right now.

Agree.
But I wonder how he will be able to reconcile the need to bulk up for football vs the need to be
in basketball-shape.
I'm guessing he picks one sport after his frosh year and sticks with it exclusively.
