Thank jeebus he's not wearing 26 anymore.

He'll be bigger than just about all the LB's and DE's on that team, I'd bet.

Also--interesting aside, my alma mater is the opener for Faulkner on their NAIA schedule. He'll be in my town of Wise, VA to take on UVA-Wise's Highland Cavaliers on 9/1 at 6pm. I'm half-tempted to go decked out in Canes gear--just haven't decided whether to "boo this man" or be happy he's still playing football (albeit on the NAIA level).

Strange move by him. I'd think it'd be better to just take the year 'off' and work with a personal trainer than to go to a Mickey Mouse school.

Check out some of Faulner's scores. http://cfbdatawarehouse.com/data/naia/msc/faulkner/yearly_results.php?year=2010

Seriously, isn't Faulkner almost high school football? Do any of you guys see any NAIA games. Just wondering.
There's not much talent at all on the NAIA level. It basically is HS football, and most NAIA schools don't give out full scholarships to any player. A very very small percentage of guys get drafted out of NAIA into the NFL. There's only been one in the history of UVA-Wise, and that was Shonn Bell who was a special teamer/TE for the 49ers in the late 90's/early 2000's.

If you want to see the glorified HS field that Ray Ray will be making an NAIA debut on, check out the video. That's UVAW's home stadium, and they (miraculously) won the Geico CFB Play of the Year last year with this play:

My only concern is how it will reflect on Miami if he doesn't set the record for tackles and interceptions in a season.

Joe Schad reported that he was not NCAA eligible, therefore he had to go to an NAIA school

Ray Ray might not be the best Safety on the field in his first NAIA game. The dude returning the punt in the above clip, Marcus Bratton, is a **** good Safety for UVAW. Tons of people ask why in the world he's in NAIA when he could be elsewhere.

And as to why he didn't go D1 instead:

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Former University of Miami safety Ray-Ray Armstrong has enrolled at Faulkner University and will practice Wednesday afternoon with the football team pending a physical, according to head coach Brent Barker. The 6-4, 220-pound defensive back still must be cleared by the NAIA Eligibility Center to play for the Eagles this fall.

Armstrong, who played three seasons in south Florida, was released by the Hurricanes in July. He is widely considered to be one of the top safeties in college football. He was named to the preseason Chuck Bednarik Award list, given to the nation's top defensive player.

"Through some relationships that coach (Steve) Cheatham has, we were contacted to see if we would be interested in talking to Ray-Ray," Barker said. "After we researched his release at Miami and talked at length with him, we felt like being at Faulkner would be a benefit to him and potentially our football program. He's a really good student and a really good football player. We hope it works out and that the NAIA will declare him eligible to play this fall."

That--and had he gone to any NCAA division school, the NCAA investigation into Miami and Shapiro-gate could have caused more penalties in the form of suspensions for Ray Ray. Going NAIA takes him out of the NCAA's scope, as the two are unaffiliated with one another.

Why not? It's not like Mathieu were he failed drug tests.

He's not wearing a Canes uni, so boo his spoiled, entiltled, prima donna, making more plays on twitter than on the field ***.

I was wondering why he chose to go to NAIA school but that clears it up for me. Thx

So if he makes it to the NFL does he say Ray Ray Armstrong The U or does he say Ray Ray Armstrong Faulkner University?

Not that it's a big deal--but UVAW's field got new Astroturf GameDay 3D turf installed last year. It looks really good for a smaller school's field. All that aside though, by the standards that a guy like Ray Ray would be used to--it will be like playing in a matchbox.

However, if you go just an hour and a half away into Johnson City, TN...you have Science Hill HS's field (named after Steve Spurrier), and it is MUCH nicer than UVAW's field and has more seats. That place is so nice, that's where Tennessee is doing their Fall camp this year.

I never thought my local knowledge would tie into BCS level football, so bear with me if I'm giving too many tidbits.

Seminole HS. Bank on it.

I hope the kid does right and gets in the L. Don't know what position he'd play, but hope he gets a crack if he wants it.
