Dennis was obsessed with huge OL whether they had talent or not. Perry had some talent but was always injured. Zev was.. not great. There was no reason for Freeman Brown (RIP) to be a take for Miami. The guy could barely get out of his stance.

Freeman was the 3rd one. I could not remember his name.

Years ago we had Ricky Perry and Zev Lumelski...absolutely huge human beings.

Unfortunately, neither was particularly athletic.
As a result I try to not get hung up on height. That said, the current guys are huge AND can move. I think it was k9 that used to refer to Lumelski as the worlds largest traffic cone (when he wore the orange uni).
Brutal, but accurate.

I was in school at the same time as Zev. Ran into him at some bar/club in The Grove our freshman year. Jeezus H Christ he was one large mammal.

Obviously you want guys who can play first and foremost but given a choice between linemen of unknown quality and one is 6’1” 266 and the other is 6’6” 330, I’m taking the bigger guy every time.

Possibly an accidental precursor to Mike Leach Air Raid tactics? His teams used huge linemen with wide splits simply because it took longer for defenders to get around them to rush the passer. Although Erickson at Miami didn’t have an excuse to not being able to recruit big guys who could actually play. Leach knew he couldn’t get big guys who were also athletic so he just settled for big guys.

Yea maybe that was his thinking but air raid or not you don't get much positive output from turnstiles.
