Rivals 2018 recruiting battles

Surtain aint comin

Im good with blades, campbell, and ivey at corner with frierson and jobe at safety, thats a elite DB class

I like jobe at corner and blades at safety I think blades is a lil stiff
Blades is the best CB in the state, 2017 kids included...
Jobe can play both, but he projects best at Safety.
Liberty City El You like Blades over Surtain at CB? Obviously they are both legit. How do you think they compare to each other?

2018 reminds me of the 2008 class, where everybody thought we were going to get Peterson, Jenkins, TJ Bryant, and Harris.

Nobody wants to hear this, but the reality is we will be fortunate to hold onto all of our current DB verbals for 2018. and even more fortunate to add one of Surtain/Samuel/Campbell. I'm not including Blades in this discussion because i'm fairly confident he signs with us.

Except none of the recruits from 2008 were committed except Petersen, and he chased the money. These 2018 class DB's seem to be extremely tight with each other, also doesn't hurt to have a much better coaching staff. I just think the situations aren't very similar.

If Miami heavily pursue's Samuel, I feel like he will be a cane. I'm under the impression that they aren't flirting with him much, if at all.

Proabably. Kids probably 5'9, 5'10 at best. Unless he has really long arms, and has close to phillip dorsett, ronald darby, artie burns athleticism. Thats pretty small. He might be the good though.

He also has 2 years in highschool to still grow some as well as some people grow when in college age as well. Even then, if he is as good as people are saying and turns into anything as close to his dad then in no way should you fault him for an inch or two.

Different Coaching staff & didn't program...
The only guy we have now for 2018 that we might have to worry about holding onto is Jobe, he "flirts" a lot with Bama, but he's also fully committed to us. Frierson & Ivey ain't going nowhere & Blades is a lock...
We 100% are going to add on at least one or two more DB's...
So one of from, Campbell, Samuel (I think he'll go to FSU), Troutman, Hall, Jonas & maybe Russell later on as his profile rises.
I would be shocked if Surtain Jr came here, only because Pat Sr is so enamored with LSU, it seems like it would be difficult to sway him.

The thing that Canes fans are going to have to get used to is the fact that, the Past doesn't dictate the future...
Richt ain't Shannon or Folden; what that means is, using past examples to show misses on recruiting has nothing to do with future successes.
$400+million renovated NFL stadium, $28million dollar IPF, former SEC coach coming back home with 145W's in the toughest conference in CFB, with some of the most successful players in the league from the program that he built, the legendary brand of The U, a competent staff that actually knows how to recruit & then finish it off with success on the field & competing for an ACC title, yeah... We absolutely can land 5-6 Elite DB's for #Storm18 .

I like your insight, I hope it goes as planned!

I tend to agree with almost all of that.

I would just add that our projected class (to be taken with a collosal grain of salt since its so far away) would start over Dallas at corner from day one. They're all pure corners, Dallas isn't IMO.

INCaneFan In regards to Dallas that is a fair assessment but I'm not so sure. Dallas is a gifted athlete who has played multiple positions during HS. Switching to a different position in college is a fairly common practice. We may find that CB is his money position and if he has a year headstart on the 2018 kids it may not be so easy for them to pass him up.

Don't get me wrong, the level of talent possessed by the projected 2018 CB's is elite. My point is that we never know who is going to make the transition smoothly or not. The great thing is that by the time 2018 comes around we are going to have an extremely competitive situation in the secondary and that's what we want.

The 2018 class can either go two ways. First is we get quite a few elite guys, more than we have in a while, but we do miss on some big fish that we realistically did have a solid shot with. The second is we are exciting to watch and win 10+ games this year, in which case the flood gates open for recruiting. If we have a very good season, If we beat FSU, etc, I think we will finish with a top 5 2018 class without a doubt.

Our entire starting DB group will be gone next year (Elder, Colbert, Jenkins, Carter). And next year we won't have any JR's at either CB or Safety. Our best 2 CB's will be Redwine and Malek Young, followed by Ryan Mayes. I wouldn't be surprised if Michael Jackson or Terrence Henly transferred. At Safety all we have is Jaquan Johnson, no one else has ever played. When the 2018 class comes in Redwine, Jaquan, and Young will be upperclassman. And really the only other guys in the way are from the 2017 class. It will be competitive, but not exactly good.

Yes but the guys from 2017 that you just glossed over are a group that consists of Christopher Henderson, Trajan Bandy, Brian Edwards and DJ Dallas. When you add those 4 to our holdovers in Redwine, Young and Mayes(who is said to be coming on) then add Blades, Ivey, and Jobe that's competitive as **** and I haven't even listed the safeties. By fall of 2018 we should have a stacked albeit young secondary.

Let's do the safeties. In fall of 2018 if we get the guys we should get our safety unit will consist of Jeff James, Jaquan Johnson, Romeo Finley, Billy Gibson, Amari Carter, Gilbert Frierson, CJ Smith and or Gurvan Hall. I'd say that's some **** good talent wouldn't you?
