Shannon didn't want alumni presence because of his insecurity so they didn't come. Golden wanted them to come but they stayed away when they realized he was a bad coach the didn't want to be associated with. Now, since we have a good coach who wants them to be around.....they will come.

All true. But after his first year golden wouldn't let us come around anymore. Claimed it was over Shapiro situation

Actually, I think Donna banned them from the sideline as sacrifice to NCAA.

I don't think the issue is the sideline presence. There is a limit on the number of visitors who can be at the sidelines from what I understand according to the NCAA rules but maybe Donna went further after Shapiro fiasco. There were other ways Ex-canes could be around the players during practice, in pregame preparations and meetings, etc. but they didn't, and I think big part of that was they didn't like what Golden was doing.
