Regarding the 'Suck Tax'

Texas certainly paid no such tax after Sark's first year.

There's just something about Miami this last decade plus. It's like, kids want to give us a chance. The brand is still strong. But every coach we've had since Coker has made a catastrophic coordinator hire their first year and never really recovered.

Miami has the money to compete with the big boys. But there's a difference between not having it, being cheap, and outright indifference.

Anyway, there's no reason for us not have 9 wins this season. Build off of that.

Texas pays no matter what their record was the prior year.

There’s no such thing as “over paying”. You either pay what it costs or you don’t get the player you want. If Miami is going to start worrying about overpaying, they should start thinking about hiring a coach who can win without the most expensive talent.

You get what you pay for.

If you’re going to be frugal while trying to land Elite talent, then you’re not going to get Elite talent.

The question then becomes, can you win without Elite talent?
Ya but are they really trying to be frugal?

Yup, the tax is really high this year…Because all kids remember is 45-21…45-3…42-16 ALL ON OUR HOME FIELD. ALL ON TV. ALL WITH A HUGE PREAMBLE BEFORE THE GAME AND THE ANNOUNCERS commenting (well at least commenting for the 1st quarter lol) ABOUT HOW CMC IS BUILDING THINGS

That cannot be removed from kids' heads… They were probably sitting there thinking "Miami is back? I'm shutting this **** off and turning on an SEC game"

We already spent quite a bit on positions of need
Trader
Robinson
Riley
Lightfoot
Frankanvilla
Pruitt

Certainly we have more budget but let’s not act like we wiffed on everyone. We definitely need to pay the suck tax.
Maybe that tax was less with Breeland and Simmons than Scott and Stewart. If so it was smart waiting and being butt hurt for a little while.

If we still strike out…🙈
You can’t only pay for 6 kids a class. Something is up with NIL. It looks like the 3 star kids or most of them can play. Mack and the other kid we flipped at DB look like they can play. Shavers looks like he can play. I think the names people are wondering about are Russell, Anderson and a couple of the O lineman. We need to find the money to get 4-6 big time kids that can impact things. Then people wouldn’t be so upset at miss after miss. Or wouldn’t worry so much about 3 stars

Brother that guy said we paid NIL for Francavilla.

I stopped reading after that and proceeded to laugh uncontrollably for a good 2-3 minutes.

Mario needs talent to be successful. He was hired predominantly for his talent acquisition skills and ability to attract a quality staff. If we are going to rely on his game preparation and game day coaching, then we are doomed!!!

We say it every ear but this season is pivotal. We need 9 wins. Nine wins will exceed most expectations and send a strong message that we are on the right path. Then let’s see what he can do to finish this class and get a jump on next year’s class with a better on field product.

Less than 8 wins is a recipe for continued mediocrity.

Was just at a 4H sale... believe me, there is definitely such a thing as overpaying for your hobbies. Miami (Mario) is gonna have to navigate this thing extremely smart if he doesn't have the funds. He might not be up to the task. Mario was a dumb hire if we were gonna try to ball on a budget. I think NIL was still new for what he agreed it was gonna take to get him here. Now the market is just wide open and he's in trouble.

Lol not trying to be a mope, but Mario definitely won’t be able to win here without elite talent so he better get something figured out

I mean most people have budgets but I don’t go to the luxury car dealership and tell all the salesmen “I’d buy a car but I’m not overpaying for it” while everyone else there is paying the going rate. It’s clear that Ferrari collecting is out of my budget. That doesn’t mean I can’t have a hobby, I just need find more economical ways to have a good time.

What I’m getting at is other schools are not “overpaying” they’re paying the going rate. Maybe in the future there will be a market correction and the rate will change but right now, it costs (x) dollars to have a top 5 class. So Miami can either pay the sticker price for the Ferrari or try to make due with a Camaro while hoping the price for Ferraris eventually becomes more affordable.

Or you can buy a used 1986 Pontiac Fiero, and then bolt on a Ferrari conversion kit.
