Please do not use the stupidity of the Turds' paying Gapier $7.4 MM to justify Mario's salary one way or the other. I just can't take that comparison right now. After all, Dan Lenning and Hugh Freeze make less than Mario (with better results).

It's not about justification, it's about market price. Anyone can overperform, anyone can underperform the contract. To say we were crazy to offer that salary is stupid. To say we haven't gotten bang for the buck is fair.

Again, Mario was coming off of P5 conference championships. Slingblade Billy was coming off of G5 conference championships. Lanning was a coordinator and Freeze was a scandal-bitten former HC who was serving his Purgatory at Liberty.

Lanning has already been increased to $7M per year. Freeze is at $6.5M per year. So the range on those four is $6.5M to $8M.

Players might feel that all of them are overpaid. Certainly, pre-NIL players can see the discrepancy.

I'm just pointing out that there is a difference between "never should have paid him that kind of money" (wrong) and "hasn't earned it yet" (fair).

the amount he got is fine, its the length of the deal that was a mistake. makes it hard to fire him when hes not winning which he currently isnt.

Then I'm in the wrong business because these two HC are basically running a Ponzi scheme with the money they're making vice the the result they're giving

I think guys like Lanning & Smart walked into yes sir, no sir locker rooms (for the most part) with extremely good S&C facilities. Whereas Mario walked into arguably one of the worst locker rooms in CF. Guys like Silvera were actually leaders on the team, wow. Furthermore the S&C facilities are very basic, and the commitment by the players is lacking. This was my critique of the hire, that we knew all that and it was hard for me to see us become the UGA of the ACC, which ultimately is the goal. Tough ask to play like UGA alone, plus years behind the 8 ball? That's a huge endeavor imo and doesn't maximize what we could do to win. All that being said, the die is cast. There's no running from it now. Miami players must buy in, they have to understand no one is coming to save them, so they better get used to the demands of being a physical football team and Mario has to get them excited about it.

His seat was so hot they had a multi year 8 - 9 million dollar per extension on the table? All their fans were saying he wasn’t leaving up until the day after Utah and laughed at the thought of him coming here. Then when they realized he was bouncing their story changed.

It seems people have forgotten how this whole ordeal went.

Exactly. He had an extension on the table from Oregon for MORE than we gave him when he took our job.

Fair enough and I hear you. Market value vs. economic utility.

It was the Gapier comp that irked me. I don't think any other team was going to pay that weirdo near what FU did. IMO the best argument for Mario's deal being market value at that time is that OU made him a similar offer to stay put.

Bro..the program was on life support..you had CGD shame the state on the program. Making the program get serious. Mario is getting at least 5 years here..I thought that was WELL understood & generally expected..soo I’m not sure the retroactive confusion

This is true. At that time they weren't happy to lose him, they are happy now though.
