Recruiting Update 8-4

According to Ofacekilla's eligibility chart, we're at 83 kids if Witt is on medical. We have 11 commits right now with AJL and RL3, and 11 seniors graduating. That means we have room for only 2 more with no sanctions, unless scholarship players start leaving. So....

There is attrition every year.

Did Hawaii just say "if" McDermott pans out?

He's a starter! He's already panned out.

lol. Not really. The only other "center" on the roster is Junior Alexis. Secondly, Turnstile McMeans and Matt Pipho were also "starters". See what i mean? Anyone can be penciled in on a piece of paper as the "starter"...but it dont meant anything until they PROVE they can perform. McDermott, Isidora, etc havent proven anything. Not even Flowers, not Gadbois.

Wheeler is the backup center

Golden has nothing but good things to say about McDermott. He's a 3* lineman who became a starter, I would certainly say that he's panned out. Also, Wheeler is the backup center, not Alexis.

From your lips to god's ears. I dont like being negative. But 10 years of wishful thinking have taught me to expect the worst.

Sometimes a guy is a starter by default, or when there are no better options. Let the season play out and then we'll see.

It reminds me of the time when my friend says he placed second in a 5k. Yeah....out of 4 competitors in his age bracket.

Can't really blame you there. From everything we have heard it really sounds like McDermott is going to be a rock on the line though. The star gazers wanted Linder to slide over to center but straight from Golden, McDermott was far outperforming everyone at the spot.

Geez that is pretty much the exact same thing.

With Rising Senior Day coming up on August 12th, here are the latest rumors around the Miami recruiting scene.

-With 11 commits already, the class is more than half way done. The coaches are trying to be careful with the numbers and would like to take a smaller class after last year's big class and the way that things are shaping up positively already for 2014. The number right now is most likely 17-18.

-The attention will now be turned to closing the deal with Jaynard Bostwick and Maquedius Bain on the defensive line, who both have Miami leading right now. Bain has been keeping a lot to himself about when he could pull the trigger, but it would not be a surprise to see him commit at the Senior Day. Bostwick has been very open that Miami is his leader. Once both of these guys jump on board, the DL recruiting will be done for the most part, with Tim Williams possible being the cherry on top. He's not an absolute need, but would be a great get and has serious interest.

-There will be at least 1 more OL added to this class, to pair with commit Alex Gall. There is a lot of confidence that Denver Kirkland will be in the class, but another possible option is Hunter Knighton from New Jersey. He was offered at a camp a couple months ago and has legitimate interest. He's kind of under the radar and plays a lot of DT in high school, but Kehoe likes him a lot. Things look good on the Kirkland front, though.

-WR Jordan Cunningham will be someone to keep an eye on. If he doesn't end up at UM, it may not be completely his decision. Everything I've heard is that he loves Miami and the Canes lead, but I don't think the staff has decided whether or not they would take him right now. Receiver isn't a huge need in this class after taking 5 last year and Angelo Jean-Louis coming in January.

-Former Miami commit Levonte Whitfield has recently said that FSU leads for him. According to sources, the Noles may not have a spot for him in their class, though. They have 3 WR commits, including Columbus WR Jesus Wilson, whose game is very similar to Whitfield. This is an interesting development because there is also talk that Whitfield may not have a spot at Miami right now either.

Not smart on the part of the coaches. Better to load up now by getting rid of deadweight. What happens if we get hit with bigtime sanctions in 2014 and beyond? Golden was smart to frontload last year ahead of sanctions by taking 33 and getting rid of all those Shammin scrubs and making the team as young as possible. He needs to finish that process this year, especially at OL and S.

Although if taking only 17-18 is actually in preparation for sanctions, then you can't blame Golden.

Not offering Whitfield is just dumb.

Wow, your right. Our staff has no idea what they are doing. I'm going to start a kickstarter fund to add you to the staff to supervise Golden.

I'll be glad when Whitfield finds a landing spot so his name can stop coming up. Bottom line is dude had an offer, had a spot in the class secured and decided to pursue something else, period. As bad as we need a teamwide injection of speed, Im glad the staff decided to move on. Why people are dumping on the staff, and not doing the same with Kermit is a real headscratcher.

Who has more credibility; the staff who put a top 10 class together on the heels of 6-6, and looming sanctions, or the kid who once said "I'll always be a Cane in my heart", but promptly decommitted and has our #1 rival at the top of his wish list?
