Recruiting anxieties

Everybody's man crush Lane didn't fare much better.
Lane’s known as a lazy recruiter and a good game coach. Mario’s known as a good recruiter and not such a good game coach.

This isn’t a winning argument for Mario.

Whatever, Mario can only do so much if he doesn’t have top NIL dollars. And because $ is such an equalizer, if we aren’t flush with cash for NIL, we’d be better off with a competent recruiter who can better identify, develop and coach on the field in this day and age.

True..but Lane sucked as a game day coach this year. He threw away the UF game with his dumb 4th down play calling and laid an egg at home against an 8 loss team.

Never said it was. But I think their class was like top 5 last year.

I’m as defeated as anyone here in my outlook for the future. UM finishing around 14 or 15 regardless of Lane / Ole Miss just isn’t going to work out well with Mario as HC.

Again, I’m actually not holding it against him if the NIL isn’t there the way we need it because I think it’s about money today more than ever but that’s also a killer for us because Mario isn’t overcoming talent deficits with elite talent identification, development and coaching.

I’m spent honestly. Between the season ending losses, a less deserving Bama getting in ahead of a not so deserving UM and us not really getting better talent for the future - what’s left?

Fool yourself into thinking we'll do better in the portal. Lie to yourself about the talent level of the players we pull in. Ignore your eyes regarding the development of younger players in the spring. Believe without pause the sponsored content spewed about top performers. Then tell yourself the 2026 class will be elite and Mario will close again.

You'll be ready for major disappointment by the summer.

Exactly how I feel. No sunshine. And I love D$ for his enthusiasm and optimism. But every cycle we know where the failure points are, and every cycle we just can't seem to address them. I know we entered the season thinking 10-2 would be a good outcome. But we also thought we'd end up with a Top 4-7 recruiting class, including an elite DB class. Mario cannot possibly see what happened the last 7 days as anything other than an epic fail.

How convenient

Debating Mario vs Lane is just so mind numbing to me

You end up in the exact same spot it just looks much different on how you get there. One guy was given reign over our program for no reason and the other has the complete opposite career trajectory you’re supposed to have

Picking a side in that one is sort of like debating Miami vs Alabama as the 12th best team like what the **** are we really talking about here
