Recruit Notebook - Jermaine Grace

Can't help but see him at safety with his natural coverage skills. Always hear d'orito talk about positional flexibility...as a safety he could always play the box in obvious passing downs as a way to get an extra DB on the field...either way kid is a stud!

Im sure he could play SS but he is needed more at LB and would be most effective at WILL.

His ability to sink his hips and drop back into coverage is an asset that should get him early playing time. It is an attribute most of our linebackers lack right now.

I thought the write-up was very accurate. As Cam knows I have seen him several times. I should emphasize that he has great instincts for a HS player. He seems to know where to be on the field as the play develops.

so is he a skai moore with more upside? (no pun intended)

Grace is on another level from Moore. His production and potential are both higher. Their instincts are similar, but I like Grace's better. The speed Grace possesses is the real factor that separates these 2 players, in my opinion

mad propz...cane lock in the bush mold...wont wait too long...if he is playing wlb, thomas plays strongside? who can handle a tall big te better in coverage? or is this alex fig role? just interested in this aspect of coverage, do we always roll saftys in zone to help? ie. virginia td paul

Thomas is better suited to slide to Strongside and deal with the Tight End. His height and size make him the more effective choice for that task. Figueroa is a good player whose tendencies trend more towards rushing the passer. Thomas and Grace are the elite coverage options at Linebacker in this class.

This guy is one of my favorite recruits in the class. I don't think there is anything he does not do well. He should start getting some real PT as a soph/rs-fr and then be starting the year after.

Just read the canesport article on grace and he is exactly what we need.
I like hearing this..."We went everywhere together - our hosts were Tracy Howard, Malcolm Lewis and Deon Bush," Grace said. "Rashard and Coley, they enjoyed themselves just like me. Rashard was like `If we all come here it'd be crazy, we'd be in a BCS bowl.' I said `Yeah, that's true.'"
Also gave muhammad his canes hat under the condition muhammad signs with miami

good to see kids we r solidly in first for tryna go out and recruit everybody else to come play together... even if theyre not officially committed yet

Might as well just bump this because it's really an astounding write-up. Before I wrote a separate piece based on notes, I decided to re-read this thread. It's such a good analysis that I hope some people save it for 4-5 years from now.

I couldn't be a bigger fan of Jermaine Grace. He may have surpassed Alex Collins as my favorite recruit in the class.

For a while (and in this thread), I've said that I see Grace as a 2nd or 3rd rounder in the future. Given the way is evolving and the skills LBs will need going forward, if Grace puts on 30 pounds in the next 4 years (a realistic goal), I think he has everything you'd want in a 1st round caliber LB.

It will be really interesting to see if they can keep him off the field and give him a redshirt. If he's really 205-208 right now, and he spends the next 8 months working harder than he's ever worked before, I think he's more valuable to our team (next season) than guys like Armbrister and Cornelius - who'd be the presumed backups to Perryman at WLB.

He brings a unique set of skills to the field that can't really be measured until he takes the perfect drop depth. He did so today on a crossing route and it made me stand up. He threw the QB's rhythm completely off. It's the type of play that doesn't show up in any individual statistical category, but changes whether a defense gets off the field on 3rd down or not.

When Thomas and Grace are on the field together, we're going to witness special things.

His build is similar to Jon Beason's back in high school.
