Why? There are many top teams that have 2-3 backs in the stable. UM has one in Duke but falls short beyond that. Alex Collins or any other top back would be foolish to not look at the great opportunity they would have playing for the Canes!
And yes you must be a troll!
Great breakdown.
I'm surprised any top running backs are considering us after we signed Duke last year. We obviously need another great running back to get back to the old days when we just stockpiled great ones. Nowadays these high schoolers always cite early playing time as a huge motivating factor, and it's obvious to even a blind man that any running back the next couple years is only going to be a complimentary back at best.
Duke is the man and will be until he graduates.
Now before you guys start yelling profanities at me and calling me a gator troll, think about it logically.
Duke is a once in a generation type of player. Plain and simple he's that good. I thought last year that after he signed we would just wait a year before recruiting a running back to get Sony Michel who would only have to wait one year before he became the man.
He He He. Nope not a troll except for the Canes.
I'm not saying we don't need a deep backfield. Having a backfield like we had with Portis, Gore and McGahee is the goal of every team in College or the Pros. What I am saying is that with the kiddies these days they all want to play early, and I don't mean they want a few carries in garbage time, but they want to start as Freshmen. These guys all have the Bryce Brown 3 and out attitude.
Duke's one of the only ones I've seen in years of top high school backs who displays genuine humility.
I think even next year when he breaks the Miami rushing record and becomes one of the only backs in NCAA history go over 2K he will still just feel blessed to be a Cane.
I also think that Duke will stay until he graduates which means 4 years not 3.
As for depth, we only have 4 running backs on our roster not including fullbacks so pretty much every NCAA team is deeper than us.
Deeper but not better as when you have somebody who is Barry Sanders Great quality erases quantity in a big way.
I'd take Duke over every one of FSU's running backs in a trade. I don't think there is a better running back in college right now then Duke. That's not just me being a homer but an empirical observation.
Opposing teams are genuinely afraid of Duke. One of the funniest things I've heard in years occurred during the first game of the year when the mic's caught the opposing coach telling his players, "Number 8 is not in there to block!"
I'm sure Collins thinks he's a great back, but any back from Florida knows Duke Johnson and outwardly they may tell people, "I'm as good as Duke." or "I'm better then Duke," but deep down they know differently.
That's not a knock on Collins or anybody else. Duke is just that special. Everybody knows it and every running back knows that as long as Duke is at Miami they will always be Robin to Duke's Batman.
I hope Collins comes to Miami because we definitely need him and Michel the year after. You can never have enough great running backs. I hope he comes here with the mindset of making Duke 2nd team and part of me hopes he accomplishes that as that would mean we would have the best running backs in College football.
