reality = 17 year boys vs 21 year old men

According to that brilliant chart, the Fighting Cokers of UTSA should be beating people on experience alone. Dumb chart. Really dumb.

Sorry but I dont see why other teams can play young guys and do decent while we play young guys and get murdered. I was at the game sitting real real close today. I saw horrible tackling technique and a lot of things that are due to bad coaching. There will come a point where everyone will agree that we cannot keep allowing 500 yard games every game.

Because those teams place a few great freshman out on the field and back them up with at the very least some JAG seniors who may not be play-makers but are strong enough to execute. They only play the Malcolm Lewis', Deon Bushes and Duke Johnsons. The other freshman get sidelined to bulk up and learn. The problem is those back up JAG seniors for us are actually non amazing freshmen, which hurts, ALOT, since they may be quality players but are not physically ready, and unlike the aforementioned star players, theyre not talented enough to hide their lack of physical tools.

Also you talk about tackling technique but considering how young this team is you're mainly blaming their highschool coaches as most of these guys haven't had time to be taught proper technique

We're not just "playing" young guys..were relying on them, a lot of them.. Go check out the top 10 defenses..lmk which of those rosters compares favorably to ours.

GREAT POINT!
The number one team in "merica is ranked 76 on that chart. That chart says absolutely nothing. I understand that experience is always helpful in implementing schemes, however your scheme and execution of said scheme should matter more. Who cares if you have a **** load load of Juniors and Seniors, if the scheme is crap, or they cannot execute the scheme.

Also check Oregon (number 97 on the list). New QB + new running back = haven't missed a beat on offense.

I would also submit that Steele's chart is very formulaic and does not take in to account things like a Sophomore at Alabama being different than a Sophmore here. A Soph there has spent at least 1, and possibly 2, seasons matching up against championship level competition in practice. Here, a Soph is considered a "vet" because it isn't their first year on the team.

Age or not, no reason we shouldn't have won that game on Saturday...UNC was giving us the game, multiple times and we straight up lost it.

Unexcusable.

i was 5 rows behind the bench on saturday and i confirm the OP's post. a lot of our young players are not only young but small. you take a look at mccord, blue, howard and many other and they look like ordinary people, not football players. we are undersigned, "over-aged" and lacking in maturity and experience.

btw, i'm all for playing these young guys

I'm pretty sure I brought this up before in a previous thread about a month ago and was called an idiot and someone who knew nothing and that their age had nothing to do with the performance on the field.

How wrong those people really are.

i heard this **** in 2008

I have not looked at 2008 roster but I imagine there was more senior/junior leadership on even THAT team. As I posted we need a couple of strong recruiting classes to follow up on last year's class something Shannon failed at post that 2008 class. Also as someone else noted if we had Vernon/Ojomo/RayRay/Forston/Arthur Brown we would surely put a better defense out there. We have what looks like a pretty solid class lined up if we are able to get the 6 ank Kirkland and a few DT's. We need to understand how thin we really are and set expectations as such. As another poster noted "it is like lining up a bunch of freshman and sophmores agains juniors and senioros ALL season long-NO WAY that translates into a strong sesaon. Furthermore look and Golden's unbridled enthusiasm- he almost jumped into the ref's arms on those missed NC fieldgoals-and compare that into Shanon's demeanor on the sidelines! Patience and support is what this team needs. Get two classes in and we will compete for BCS in two years.
