Re: total scholly limits; scholly limits per cycle; EEs.

The key to all of this that often gets lost is exactly what the OP said. Our limiting factor is the 85 total scholarship limit for the team, NOT the 25 or 28 or whatever for each class. 85 is the magic number so whether we take 15 or 17 or 19, it is limited by the 85 total, not having some EE and backdated to last class opening up more because who cares. 85 is still the cap no matter how you slice it or dice it.

Well, it cuts both ways, but yes, this year it would be about the total number as unless we have an additional 10 plus kids leave over the 15 seniors, we wouldnt be getting to 25 anyway. However, if we have EEs that will could count against last year, why not do so that we have potentially more openings for EEs next year (dependent on who leaves/graduates and/or sanctions).

That would be a valid reason to pursue EEs. Again, the last 3 cycles we maxed out the 25, and the staff isn´t pushing for EEs this season.

Excellent post Bomb. This clears things up.

Regarding the NCAA and self imposing, not playing in a bowl game is a real tangible action that the NCAA cannot deny. However a lot of teams run under the 85 scholarship limit for one reason or another. How can we be sure the NCAA would accept a self imposed scholarship reduction? We would have to convince them that we turned away kids on our own. I am not exactly sure how we prove that. Has any other school made a similar action in the past?

Well, sorry you didn't find it of interest. But for the rest of us who take more than a superficial interest in recruiting and the rules and laws they govern it (specifically what's been discussed in this thread) it's worth following.

What? Did you reply to the wrong post?

When Al says 15/16 that means in this years recruiting class....AKA Hooks, Bradley, Punter, Bond, Sandland, etc. would all count towards last years class because they would come in as Jucos for midseason. I know people have been arguing and trying to figure out the exact numbers but thats why it looks like were recruiting more than 15/16 like Al said, because we are. We will have atleast 20 new faces total if we can get some of the Jucos/early enrollees like were anticipating.

Remember there where a few from the 2012 class that didn't make it Josh Witt was granted medical Release. Vernon Davis transfered to WVU before class started so that is two spots that can added back to the 2012 class now available for 2013 EE. Then there was the olinemen Bartow who left before fall, allowing more room on the 2012 class to be added since there where several EE for 2012 but not enough open room on the roster to count them back. Also Junior Alexis dlinemen left before fall, opening another spot for a 2012 EE to be added back to the 2011 roster count, thus freeing up another EE spot for 2013. So in total UM should have 4 spots to offer as EE for 2013, plus the number of SRs leaving. Keep in mind UM's 2012 roster only had 81 scholarship players.

Go Canes

Didn't Thomas Finnie and Olsen Pierre count against the 2010 class?

Nah, 2010 was full, too. EE do not automatically count towards the previous class, only if that class still had room left. In theory, all 25 recruits could be EEs and none of them count towards the previous cycle.

We signed 27 in 2010. Jeremy Davis, Tavadis Glenn, and Delmar Taylor never enrolled, so that brings us down to 24. I believe Chase Ford counted towards 2009 since he came in during the spring, which would bring us down to 23. Which would mean we have 2 spots for EEs in 2011 (Finnie and Pierre), which then gives us 8 EE spots for 2012, which gives us 2 additional EE spots for 2013.

I´m counting 25 + Chase Ford:

JBarton
JBrown
MBunche
KCain
EClements

ACleveland
TCornelius
DDavis
JFeliciano
CFord

JGaines
MHagens
DHall
SHenderson
AHurns

SJohnson
BLinder
SMcDermott
SMorris
KNelson

KPayne
DPerry
KRodgers
ATallman
CWalford

TWilliams

Non-Qualifiers:

DTaylor
JDavis
TGlenn

You are forgetting the fact that some of those kids were EEs themselves. Morris, Bunche, Hurns and Storm were, can't remember if their were others. Our 2009 class was only 19 deep so there was definitely room for the 2010 EEs.

We signed 33 last year and 9 came in early so that was 24 for the fall minus AJL so that is 23 giving us 2 we can count back to last year. Not sure how this works but Vernon Davis left so his spot is technically open. Would that give us an extra EE spot?

Not to be offensive, but whats amazing about this thread is how dense some people are. Its been stated a couple of times the EE don't matter, because they can't help get around the 85 total schollie limint. They only help get around the 25/yr new schollie limit. Some people seem unable to process that information.

Irrelevant, see OP or post by fivecent above.

Kids who qualify and enroll count against that class regardless of what happens later on, so neither Witt nor Davis nor Barton retroactively
open up any EE spots.

However, more importantly, totally irrelevant anyway. See OP or post by fivecent above for explanation.

Hmmm, interesting. 4 EEs, yet the numbers for this class haven´t changed 1 iota.

It's pointless.

Your efforts are much appreciated though. I follow recruiting pretty closely and #'s are still confusing.

Why would they change? What is limiting the number we can take this year is the 85 overall cap. EE's don't change anything in regards to that cap.

Edit: I was responding to the other guy. My mistake for quoting you.
