RB's visiting February 1st

Goldon stated right after the season that RB was an absolute priority in this recruiting cycle. So there's no way he's going to let Al Collins' wishy washy ways catch him with this pants down. He's going to find a quality RB or two because we really need them.

There were also heavy rumors that Clements was going to transfer toward the end of last year. Lots of smoke there. If he doesn't, and he recovers from his surgery, I like him a lot more than most of you guys do.

But we need to bring in at least 1 RB. I still think we're targeting 2 RBs this cycle. I have a feeling if we can get Edwards we will sign him regardless of what Collins does.

Collins and Edwards....I like a lot.

AC immediate impact. AE takes a shirt bulks some and we have a hybrid FB type runner that coley loves to use. Add the rbs of 2014 and our backfield is going to be scary for the foreseeable future

5ringz, i don't think it has to do w/ collins coming to UM as it does with barber coming back from his ole miss visit and reaffirming with ole miss.
i think we get collins, but, i think here it's more barber dropping us than UM dropping him.

Old P1ss must be back in the cheat game like they were in the 80s when they almost caught a death penalty case. There's no other explanation for what they're doing this cycle.

I actually really like Clements but the injury/possible transfer(which I doubt) has me worried

Golden was trying like **** to find another RB to add to last years cycle so I thought 2 would be the # this year. Also D$ posted a while back that we were looking at some JUCO RB's and Edwards was offered when Collins was committed.

Sounds like 2 to me.

It's always a good idea to listen to Goldon's words, and he specifically mentioned in a couple interviews RB as one of the 2 or 3 priority need positions this cycle. No way he feels that way and only brings in 1.

<-------------Big Dallas Crawford fan

Me too. Not so sure he's a traditional RB though. He's really small. I would love to see us use him in a wildcat package REGULARLY, not just for a play or 2 once every 4 games. He adds a throwing dimension to that wildcat that most wildcat guys don't have. That dude's got a lovely arm. Coley would be smart to work that in every game; it would give defenses fits.

Your posts are fire Franchise, but I can't roll with the wildcat as anything other than a gimmick formation we run against the likes of Duke, Wake, etc. When it matters - to my thinking - our bread and butter should be running out of the I formation with a big dose of play action. I just don't think that we'll beat the better teams (the elite teams) running Crawford out of the wildcat as a regular part of the offense - and by regularly I assumed you to mean often. Hey, but at the end of the day Cane, if we run the wildcat and win national championships I'll gladly eat crow by the dump load full.

I believe edwards is being looked at as more of a FB/lonnie pryor role so his recruitment shouldn't affect any of the pure RB targets that we have.

P.S. I am also a big fan of Dallas Crawford. RB, slot WR, return game, whatever just get him some touches

Thanks for the feedback, Benn. By regular part of the offense, I meant 5 or 6 plays every game. If it looks like it's really working, then use it more. I think Dallas is a unique talent and overall great football player. I think he's a weapon we need to exploit, and that might be the best way to do it.

On top of that, it would give opposing teams fits having to prepare for that extra element every week.

dallas makes plays anywhere anytime...i expect the same from rl3...some kids just get the game and love contact...rb or ss

It would be interesting to study what the cost in terms of time is to install a new offensive formation versus time to adequately prepare for it. From a money-ball type perspective, I bet there is some optimization that can happen given the very finite practice time college teams have to work with.

I would guess that new wrinkles could be installed during summer camp (especially with a veteran team), and require minimal maintenance during the year, but preparing for them requires a lot of time in the week the defense has for each team. Would be similar to the fits that non-post by-week GaTech gives to the opposition without being chained to the option.

i have no problem w/ the wildcat for a different wrinkle for a few plays or series. someone who can run and possibly throw the ball.

The wildcat doesn't really work very well anymore. Not good enough to run it consistently at least.

wildcat wouldn't be hard to install at all:
Oline-nothing changes, still just run blocking
WR/TE-most run blocking, with "HB pass" mixed
biggest challenge would be getting Crawford and jet sweep guy (duke?) to get mesh right at point of fake. most wildcats i see its never a really good fake anyway so i doubt it would be a problem

I like ot, he is not a star back but he brings alot to the table. Dallas needs to live up to the hype. As far as Edwards, I personally believe he is will redshirt and be groomed to replace Hagens at FB when he graduates.
I think AC wants to come here but his coach is a scumbag and trying to brainwash him.

I have recently decided to be okay with not getting Alex (I would love to have him if he decides to be here), but with next years class of Sony and that other stud I'm okay with taking a filler in for a down or two for Duke
