ray lewis retiring

Grad assistant? Defensive quality control?

Would get to watch and coach his son.

Also the possibility he wants to go fishing, play golf, and ****ing relax for the first time in his life in about 20 years.

Not sure.

The perfect role for Ray Lewis would be assistant S&C coach. Obviously he knows nutrition, how to maintain your body, how to build up, plus he would be a true motivational force during those UTOUGH mornings.

That actually sounds pretty cool..

I wish you could have a coach that solely goes on recruiting visits and nothing else. No actual coaching or game planning. He'd be perfect for that.

How many superstar athletes become coaches when their careers are over? 0.

You guys do not understand how much of a grind being a coach.

RL is set for life financially and will make close a mil a year working for a network 2-3 days a week. You think he wants to share a cot in Goldens office breaking down practice film until 3am?

^Mike Vrabel and Ohio State. Vrabel was a beast...but apart from him I can't think of many others

EDIT: But Vrabel wasn't a Superstar....but a good linebacker.

Whatever Ray decides, I doubt it'll be kibbitzing on tv.

He is unique. He enjoys work. He enjoys helping other people. He believes it's his role to do so. He takes that seriously.

Whether that means coaching or something else, we'll see. But he ain't gonna just take the easy path. That's not Ray Lewis.

Just my opinion, but I think he has a better chance of doing motivational speaking engagements than coaching at UM.

The guy can make you want to run through a wall, he would also make way more money doing it.

"It's either hold on to the game and keep playing and let my kids miss out on times we can be spending together," Lewis said. "Because I always promised my son if he got a full ride on scholarship, Daddy is going to be there. I can't miss that."

He will be sorely missed. :(

One of the greatest Canes ever played there!

My favorite Cane of all time and my favorite NFL player.

You knew he was special from day one @ the U and then onto the NFL and a Super Bowl (w/ Trent Dilfer OMFG!).

Can't wait to see him around the program - extra coach!

Ray is the best defensive player of all time IMO, over LT, Butkus, Reggie white, whoever you wanna throw in there. Leadership, Intelligence, Speed and Power. He was a freak athlete with freakish instincts, freakish work ethic and a general. 1st ballot Hall of Famer.

As far as coaching at UM goes, the best ideas I've heard so far are the ones I would roll with. Defensive quality control or Asst. S&C coach.
Ray Lewis isn't going to coach here. He's just going to relax and the dude deserves it.

Ken Norton was pretty good and did pretty well coaching at USC. Mike Singletary is a position coach who could probably do very well in college. Different sport but Kevin McHale and Doc Rivers do pretty good. Some guys just like the competition and the challenge..

lol did you not understand my post? I didn't want him doing any actual coaching... just recruiting visits cuz that is only a couple of months a year and since there is no such thing it was obviously a joke bud

He should be Head Corch. Let me ax you guys this: Who was the better player? Ray Lewis or Alfredrick Golden? Ray was 1000000x the better player, so it goes without saying that he'd be a much better corch.

Greatest LB of all time!!! Never seen anyone with so much passion and dedication to the game. Would love for him to be around the team because that attitude is infectious...might not be a great coach but if he wanted to be one I have no doubt in my mind he could become one.
