ray lewis retiring

Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis said Wednesday he plans to retire as the end of this season.

He told the team Wednesday that, "this is my last ride.''

The 37-year-old was placed on the injured reserve-designated to return list after tearing his right triceps on Oct. 14. He returned to practice on Dec. 5, and in order for him to be eligible for the playoffs, the Ravens added him to the active roster later in the month.

He's not ready to say if he's going to be healthy enough to play Sunday in the Ravens' playoff game against the Colts. All he said was that he's on the active roster.

ESPN.com senior writer John Clayton contributed to this report.

Congratulations to the GOAT.

No, he has zero coaching experience and I doubt he's interested in moving his family to Miami and taking on a $300k job to work 90 hour work weeks, hitting the recruiting trail, being away from family for another 20 years.

I know its unpopular to the super fans, but Miami is not a place where you try out NFL vets as position coaches. They need some experience before they end up at UM.

FYI:

Lewis also said on ProFootballTalk Live in October that he wants to step away from the game in time to watch his son play at the University of Miami next season, and there’s already speculation that he’ll line up a post-NFL career job at ESPN.

Not a coach but a very supportive fan..... maybe a talk to the team here and there won't hurt either.

Grad assistant? Defensive quality control?

Would get to watch and coach his son.

Also the possibility he wants to go fishing, play golf, and ******* relax for the first time in his life in about 20 years.

Not sure.

Love the guy definitely one of the best. just don't see why some think great players automatically equal great coaches

Congrats Ray! My favorite LB EVER. I know you'll be coming to watch your son. I just want to see him deliver pre-game speeches if nothing else!

He said it's time for him to "Make a new legacy." Hopefully he's talking about coaching and recruiting for Miami, and not something stupid and useless, like community service.

The perfect role for Ray Lewis would be assistant S&C coach. Obviously he knows nutrition, how to maintain your body, how to build up, plus he would be a true motivational force during those UTOUGH mornings.
