I've heard Golden say he feels like these S. Florida kids want their time in the lime light and he understands that and wants to give it to them but feels we will close strong.

Is there a chance that Golden is not 100% in touch with the games the S. Florida kids play and this recruiting year we get burned and left at the alter while Golden learns a valuable lesson about how to recruit S. Florida?

I'm gonna say...no

Pretty sure Golden knows more about what these kids could do than they do.....this has been his occupation for awhile

Guys it's a legit question. Group think around here has coalesced around the idea that we're getting everybody, and that Golden is masterminding it. I agree with it, but it sure would suck to be wrong.

Look at the last 2 cycles and see what kids AG has pulled in January and February.

Porster thread.

Listen, before you all go neg crazy. I am as big a Golden fan as anyone but I have seen enough mothers crying at their babies ******** us over to realize its neves as good as it seems or as bad.

I know Golden is feeling good about closing strong but my small concern is he's been recruiting S. Florida as coach of miami for 2 years. This year we are coming down to the wire with the biggest fish since Golden has been here. It's one thing when a 3 star with offers from UM, USF, UCF tells coach to hold tight he will probably be a cane. It's a whole other when 4 and 5 stars are being recruited by every big school in America. $$$

I want to believe we close with everyone but I can't shake that worried part of me in the back of my brain.

I actually think Golden "gets it" more than Shannon did. He is definitely taking a bet, but it's a very safe bet and we've been recruiting these guys hard the whole time. I have no doubt that if Shannon were still the corch we'd hear about how Collins & Bryant have grade or character concerns and now we don't really want them. Golden sticks by his targets even when they aren't liking UM that much and gets that it is a marathon that UM will usually win as long as we keep trying. These guys do play games...but they're just games and nothing more. Golden being able to stay consistent shows that he gets it.

That's what I needed to hear. A little positive before bed.

^Don't worry about those two. Liner was never in a million years coming here, and Williams was a known long shot based on his situation, which is all too familiar to people who follow recruiting at any school.

If anything, the Williams situation should make you feel more confident. He went to Alabama for the same reasons the majority of the local kids we are going after will end up at Miami.

I forgot to add, losing t. Williams and d. Liner today is what got me a little worried.

Can't lose somebody that you never had breh

Liner was never even a remote possibility and Williams was a always a "too far from home" risk. When Golden handled his business with Tracy Howard, when every school in the country wanted him, and Tracy hadn't really considered us until the end, that told me all I needed to know about Golden with the local kids

Yeah, I mean there's no other way to really recruit South Florida though. Coker and Shannon took too much of that Mack Brown mentality, i.e., get on board or see ya. That isn't the way to recruit down here. You gotta be willing to play the game too. These guys like getting love year round, and they're all getting that. Look at Matthew Thomas...we have every advantage in the world for him, but he still says that UM is recruiting him the hardest. We didn't give up when Collins de-committed, and now we are probably going to get him. Shannon would have given up on Collins, I think. I'm absolutely sure he would have given up on Bryant.
