Rad on Increasing Attendance

Radakovich on what Miami needs to do to increase attendance:

"We have to make sure that those seven Saturdays are events."

I don't know about you, but I LOVE this response!!!

Was the best part of his presser. Ironically, it was in response to a SMD question.

We averaged 58,000 for the year (2017), with literally only two marquee games where it got up to 65. You do the math.

Take out the big games. We’ve always sold out big games. When we’re good and there’s a big opponent coming in, we’ll sell out - that’s not the problem. The issue is those middling conference (or non conference) games, which was my premise.

Miami needs to do a better job of marketing the program. I was going to the GT game and wanted to buy a shirt. I figured ill get one at a store close to the stadium. 2 miles out and not one store had any Miami gear in there.
Would never happen in Tallahassee or Gainesville unless they were somehow sold out

Shouldn't happen in MIA, either

Some of you don't want to hear what it will take.
@Tru C this is a loaded question... but no secret where I'm coming from if you read my posts about my pet peeve.
But aside from that, S. Fla. is a tuff place for devoted sports fans... there's way too many forms of entertainment. Many college games are the main or only thing to do in these small towns. We got too many sports teams and too many boat owners, lol.
Regardless more winning and faith in the U will help raise the attendance considerably.

Love that he is thinking about it. I never thought the school gave a ****.

The 2016 and 2017 seasons were eye opening in terms of what the attendance can be like if we should start to win consistently. Even **** games like Toledo had decent numbers of people there all things considered, and the atmosphere was great.

There’s A LOT of support for the program in Palm Beach and Broward and as others have touched on, the games are easy to get to because of the turnpike access.

I think Some people are going to be surprised by what we’re able to generate for home games in terms of attendance and overall experience.

we will never on a consistent basis have full crowds. Miami and the surrounding area has too much going on and it cost too much for people to travel. Plus, one of the big differences is that it is easier to see our games on nice tv's in our own homes than it was back then and have several other tv's on watching other games.

Things are just different.

I feel all that, but we are trying to get 65000-75000 fans to come out for 6-8 games a year in a state of well over 20,000,000 people and local tri-county area of 6,000,000!

I think I know where you are going with the loaded question thing though.

Mark Cuban talked about these things. He complained about the NBA pushing so hard for a global audience, but not marketing properly to fans in places like upstate New York.

Marketing and sales is psychological and emotional. The first step to selling is ACTUALLY MAKING AN OFFER. The second step is actually believing you can make sale. After that it’s just refining the process. We can get this done.

This! It totally makes sense. In a world class city like Miami, you can’t just have a game. You have to give people a lil something extra for their entertainment dollar.

The at home viewing experience is so much more convenient and, honestly, the game itself is better on tv than in the stands. IMO what they need to focus on is the environment. Tailgating should be one of the biggest focuses. For example, at Michigan, you can tailgate allllll day. For an 8 PM game, lots will open at 9 AM. From my recollection, Miami would open lots at like 3 PM for an 8 PM game (hopefully I’m not too off base here).

A few other things- need to have good music in the venue. Kind of lame, but upbeat music makes for a good atmosphere. Maybe even make concessions cheaper. Somehow, some way, make a better effort to get more students into the game. Students = noise

I’m sure there are a lot of other things, but that’s the start of my list

Maybe do some halftime entertainment like a mini Superbowl show

They have to market the program like NFL teams do. We cannot act like college teams. Most of the game going fans did not attend Miami. Yes win and they come but they need to do more to get the youth in love with Miami and have the community in general feel like its their team like NFL franchises do. That will help when you have dip in results etc. If its paying off store owners to have merch, that's what it takes. Just as an example. But other things as well. We have missed **** near 2 decades with the rise of the internet. There is alot of untapped fans in south florida. The heat has done well overall but they are starving for a consistent football team, pro or college
