Quote from DC at Mizzou.

Was listening to Bill King on the way into work and he was interviewing the D Coordinator for Mizzou, who had one of the better defenses in the country last season. Dude said they tell their dline guys to "stop the run.......on the way to the QB." Imagine that novel concept.

I watched 2 teams this weekend that run the same scheme as we do, in Seattle and San Francisco, and they looked pretty good.

You need the horses and experience. We had some of the former and some of the latter, but not enough to be effective.

2 years ago Golden knew our defense was so untalented, young and inexperienced that he told the offense to just score irregardless of time.
He knew every game would have to be a shoutout.

Did anyone seriously expect a 180 degree turnaround this year.
We got better in every defensive category. In some categories we got over 100% better, like in sacks.

Next year we will be better than this year, if only for the simple reason that we will have more talented players across the defense and a true 2 deep.

I'm not defending D'Onofrio, but I understand that they have sacrificed the short term for long term results, and 2014 is the long term year to see the results.

.

Which is why I can understand why Golden would not cut D loose and give him a chance to succeed in 2014.

If he is right, things can be great. The alternative, not so good.

I agree. The scheme works with the right players. We've had 3 years now to get the right players and to up their football IQ to play a complex scheme.

On the flip side, if we don't see improvement in 2014 defensively, then it will be time to cut some people loose.

Wrong... neither of those teams plays 10-15 yards off the receivers. They both play bump and run up on receivers.

Does everything needs to turn into a ****head argument?

The OP posts something related to Missouri to take a swipe at our defensive philosophy, is shown that Missouri is actually not that great, then the battle ensues to show that even though Missouri is not good Miami is actually the worst at everything.

Yep -- that's a Miami message board for you.

No Miami sucks. No Miami sucks worse than you said. No *******, Miami sucks worse than anyone said. Go Canes! Goon Squad! 1983! **** everything!

Everyone hates us (ESPN, Mark May, Manny, the Herald, etc., etc.), but not nearly as much as we hate ourselves.

I'm just sayin
LOL, exactly... I'm just sayin...and yeah, our D is the worst.

NO! I'm just sayin! We both can't be just sayin!

NO! I'm just saying! And you are copying me.

You do understand how ludicrous that is, yes?

Yes. I am just sayin that I understand it, not that I like it or it will ultimately lead to success.

Loyalty to a fault.

Indeed. There are those times when thread silence may actually be better.

Defense doesn't win you s**t these days.

You have to outscore the opponent.

FSU gave up 450 yards of total offense not including the drop in the 1st quarter that would have went for 80 yards.

They gave up 677 yards to Auburn, including 545 rushing. I realize that Auburn led the country in rushing, but that 545 was by far the most they had against any 1-FBS opponent.

Missouri was 81st in total defense this year.

And we gave up 350+ yards and 4tds....to the backup QB at Duke! Auburn would've put up miles on us.

Yup the self-loathing is at an all-time high. Just give us solid QB play and the rest will fall in line.
