Was listening to Bill King on the way into work and he was interviewing the D Coordinator for Mizzou, who had one of the better defenses in the country last season. Dude said they tell their dline guys to "stop the run.......on the way to the QB." Imagine that novel concept.
I watched 2 teams this weekend that run the same scheme as we do, in Seattle and San Francisco, and they looked pretty good.
You need the horses and experience. We had some of the former and some of the latter, but not enough to be effective.
2 years ago Golden knew our defense was so untalented, young and inexperienced that he told the offense to just score irregardless of time.
He knew every game would have to be a shoutout.
Did anyone seriously expect a 180 degree turnaround this year.
We got better in every defensive category. In some categories we got over 100% better, like in sacks.
Next year we will be better than this year, if only for the simple reason that we will have more talented players across the defense and a true 2 deep.
I'm not defending D'Onofrio, but I understand that they have sacrificed the short term for long term results, and 2014 is the long term year to see the results.
