Was listening to Bill King on the way into work and he was interviewing the D Coordinator for Mizzou, who had one of the better defenses in the country last season. Dude said they tell their dline guys to "stop the run.......on the way to the QB." Imagine that novel concept.

They gave up 677 yards to Auburn, including 545 rushing. I realize that Auburn led the country in rushing, but that 545 was by far the most they had against any 1-FBS opponent.

Missouri was 81st in total defense this year.

It's not about UM's defense. Calling Mizzou's defense one of the better defenses in the country is a stretch. We only gave up 9 more ypg than they did.

Does everything needs to turn into a ****head argument?

The OP posts something related to Missouri to take a swipe at our defensive philosophy, is shown that Missouri is actually not that great, then the battle ensues to show that even though Missouri is not good Miami is actually the worst at everything.

That is classic old school Cane defense. The only thing is our old teams changed gears against the option teams of the day and changed to tackle everyone in the backfield -- one of them have the ball. It destroyed option football in that day. The advent of more mobile QBs caused change for DEs to maintain contain and turn QB back in to the monster DTs of ours. But regardless of anything, the game was played in the other team's backfield, not 8 yards down field. Fundamentals are the same, put helmets on the QB early and often and you can ruin his day and it is easier to tackle a back before he gets moving downfield.
 
You should have pointed out that Mizzou has done a better job of developing their players and that Pinkel does wonders with the classes he brings in. He has a top notch developmental program for the players. Al could take a few pointers from Pinkel.

Pinkel is what 61...I think he has been around the game a little longer that our pal al....it took him 7 years at Mizz to get to 10 wins and then last year was 5-7....this year he want 12-2..no having to play LSU or Bama...they beat UGA, UF same as vandy...AM well Duke **** near beat them and Auburn raped them....
Lets see how he pans out....
