Quentel Jones, 2022 DE/DT Offered

"Most people consider Tennessee as the frontrunner for Jones with Mississippi State and Miami also among his Top 3 favorites."

This is getting sad, that with all of Coach Simpson's history in Georgia and him being a 2x NFL dline coach for the Atlanta Falcons we are in a dog fight with Tenn and god for saken Miss St for a Defensive Tackle recruit out of the state of Georgia.

Granted Jones seems to fall into the cautionary cultural metro vs rural fit advisory zone at Miami with regards to recruiting fit @DMoney warned of.

Did Simpson say we're in a dogfight?

Recruiting isn't black and white. This recruit and others maybe aren't ready to shut it down and commit. Perhaps they want to take their visits and God forbid, make an actual informed decision.

Just a few short weeks ago, the sky was falling with our CB recruits. How do you like us now?

This attitude that we can't do something or that the coaches don't know what they're doing has to stop.

We only get an idea of where our interests actually are. A recruit gets an occasional call, letters from us, and we're recruiting them. That's where this info comes from, the recruits themselves. That information is at times, only tells a small part of the story at best.

Call me unconcerned at thud point. Come early signing day, we're still looking, then there's a legitimate gripe.

They didn't beat us for Phillips and Sneed. Just like West Virginia didn't beat us for Spells

If you don't think Jacoby Spells was a take by Miami's staff your crazy! As for Sneed and Phillips if our recruiting at dline doesn't pick up we will be praying to flip Jordan Phillips (go watch his football highlights and his all district weightlifter).

I am not going to turn this in into a who's who of recruits Miami missed on for 2022, I am just saying that it is concerning that at this point that we don't have better traction at DT recruiting given Coach Simpson's pedigree.

Yeah Spells was a take if they missed out on Graves, Rogers or Fegans. He wasn't gonna get a spot before them. That is clear and people who know things have told us that. So in other words not a take until they whiffed. And they didn't whiff. Oh and they'd love to bring in Singletary too. So that's at least 4 guys they'd bring in before Spells.

This is a thread about dline recruiting and in particular DT recruiting so lets bring it back to center, Jordan Phillips was indeed recruited by Miami and chose Tenn. Lyon's chose FSU and Tarber is most likely choosing GaTech. So Miami's 2022 DT recruiting is getting down to some players we are having to beat the bushes for ilke Isiah Hastings (from Canada) and Myron Green (Juco) both are good players but not the War Daddy types we need to beat the elite level of teams. (full diclosure - Jordan philips is not either). Just to put it into perspective lowly Gatech by the middle of august will have commitments from 3 of the top 100 interior dlinemen in the country (i expect Alton Tarber to get a huge bump in his ratings)

That's Phillips 2021 spring.

agree : outside of CB and WR we are stuck in sand: by the way seems are best recruiters are delivering

The staff is hunting big game, and we need to trust Simpson knows what he's doing. I like Tarber a lot, but do think it's like the Spells situation. If we whiff on Lucas and a couple of the other guys higher on the board, I expect we'll circle back to Tarber, Durant and some of these other names. I also expect some of these kids would listen if we need did circle back to them, even if their feelings were hurt initially.

Yeah Phillips was recruited. But saying someone was recruited means what? He got a letter and a phone call? Did they ever push for him to come down for a visit after that private workout? At least Lyons has been on campus multiple times. Once again people more in tune to Tarber's recruitment will tell you the staff has cooled on him. So if you have issues with DT recruiting cool but at least use some critical thinking and not just pretend an offer means he's actively being pursued and given the hard sell.

I know very well how the recruiting process works and as for staff "cooling" on Tarber; that situations that is not my business to discuss considering he didn't work out for staff. An FYI the staff isn't giving recruits the "hard Sell". Like it or not UM's DT recruiting will continue to be stressful until we either land some commits or put a better product on the field this year.
