Lot of that this morning. I'm interested on everyone's opinion on who they would take. Taking 2 is a possibility because Morris will graduate leaving us with:

Williams - senior
Olsen - RS fr
Dewey - RS SO
Crow - RS SO

I'm going to leave Thompson out on this one. Think he will be all baseball by this time. I

Guys we are looking at or should take a hard look at:

Morgan Mahalak
Flowers
Eduoard
Harris

Who else is out there? And would we take 1 or two?

I would take 2, gotta think it is possible for dewey or crow to transfer. With that said I am going with Mahalak and Eduoard. If we can convince flowers and harris to come as athletes then I would take them as well.

Id take two. Preferably Eduoard and Flowers. I think at least one if not would be better than Crow anyway. Thats a lot of versatilty at the QB position provided that Flowers sticks to being a QB even though im sure he'll wind up being an athlete. Do not want Mahalak

Well have a couple young pro style qb's in Dewey and Olsen, I think we should throw in one or two guys who can run and in 2015 go for a more pocket passer type again

I like the idea of taking 2. TBH, most people will throw out names because they like a handful of plays on a guy's highlight tape, which especially for a QB can be misleading.

Most of the guys we're looking at currently are still relatively unknown. I hope the coaches get the chance to work with all the possibilities in a camp setting to really get a better feel for them

I agree, I think we need both types of qb's on the team.

Agreed. The more options the better, and you never what what will happen with injuries/transfer and whatnot, look what happened to Maryland this year. Always good to have quality depth at qb.

Treon Harris won't play QB at Miami.

That Sean White kid, the one from Chaminade (I think that's his name), should also be thrown in the mix.

I want Flowers and Edouard.

2 is a must IMO and hopefully 1 can be a EE.

I want Winky and Edouard.

Including Thompson, I dont like having 3 QBs that are all RS freshmen. There needs to be some class separation there.

Give me a QB who's film shows him making ALL the throws, not just deep balls. Also a kid who's not throwing to a bunch of stud WR's. Stats and high school production are useless, it's about upside. Not all the high school QB's in South FLA are throwing to the same caliber of WR.

Jacory is a perfect example of what I'm talking about.

You gotta take 2. I love Allen Edward. Only issue I see with him is after looking at his highlights he looks like RGIII. Then, when you look at his actual production on the field, he looks like Daniel Steagall. I guess they call them highlight reels for a reason. I would love to see his accuracy and TD/INT ratio to improve dramatically this year because he has all the measurables and seems like a really great kid who really loves UM.

I'd probably try to bring in Winky too with the idea that he'd play another position. If you have to promise him a shot at QB to get him here then do that. fsu did the same thing with Anquan Boldin.

I would also look for another guy who is less of a "project" and bring him in because I doubt Winky ever sticks at QB. A lot will depend on how Edward develops his senior season. If he takes some big strides in his production, then maybe you can get by with him and Winky. If not, then you would need another guy who isn't a project.

I agree with all of this! Edouard's potential is through the roof, but his production hasn't been there (many factors can go into this - talent around him, lackluster coaching, poor passing system, etc.). That's why I want him and a guy like Sean White (who embodies what your last paragraph describes)

Premature right now to assume how many we should take, we wont know til after Spring how any of the other guys on the roster are progressing. A lot will also depend on if we are going to take a full class, or a smaller one depending on the NCAA issue. I think the absolute MAX we can take is 2 guys. Even if we lose 1 or 2 Qbs from the roster, Id still think we would be pretty well stocked with only 2 coming in. My thinking is we will take one of the local kids, either Edouard/Winky, and maybe a kid like Mahalek. Its possible we COULD take Winky also, with an eye towards moving him if he doesnt cut it at QB, but that is something he would have to agree to upfront, and I doubt Al would bullsh*t the kid the way other programs do.

I loved Sean White's film, specifically his instincts in the pocket, sliding away from pressure and then squaring up to make accurate throws. He displayed great footwork and just very solid fundamentals along with what appeared to be a strong arm. I prefer a pure pocket passer over a dual-threat QB. Miami will always have elite talent at WR and RB requiring a patient QB who will be dedicated to going through his progressions, buying time and getting the ball to the playmakers.

After being severely disappointed by some QBs over the years, I've come to REALLY value things like pocket presence, scrambling while keeping eyes downfield, etc. And I agree with you that I love that about White

It's also one of my bigger concerns about Morris.

That's why I think if we take 2, we will take one of each. IMO its Mahalek/White/or another pocket passer, and Flowers/Edouard. ASSUMING we have a full class to offer.

Morgan Mahalak

I need an explanation on this kid because he didn't start this year, please tell me why people want him based on what he has done (not what could be).

Coaches must like something about the kid, because they have been talking to him for a while. Sometimes you bring in kids who arent necessarily looking like superstars with the idea that maybe they provide some depth and can be career back up QB types. Unfortunately, we seem to have a plethora of those guys right now, so unless Mahalek has a lights out type year, he may not get the call.

This is my line of thinking. Give me White and then Flowers/Edouard.
