The Canes secured their quarterback of the future with the signature of 4-star Luke Nickel. The Alpharetta, GA native led his Milton squad to an undefeated regular session while putting up 3,033 yards (66%), 36 TDs and 7 INTs.

Standing at a sturdy 6’2, 205, Nickel is an Elite 11 Finalist with clean fundamentals and high-level field vision. His brother and father were both college TEs and he brings functional athleticism to the position (13 career rushing TDs). As a junior, he led Milton to...

Big time pick up IMO.

Fantastic arm talent & has the IT factor.

Improvisational Gunslinger with good mobility while throwing on the run & has good ball placement. He trusts his arm & isn't scared to make tough throws.

Assuming Dawson is still here by 2026, wouldn't shocked at all if he ends up as a 3-year starter. If Dawson eventually leaves, will be critical for his development to get him an OC who understands Offense (no more Ponce/Gattlesses ever again please & thank you).

@C A N S had the perfect comp for him with Sam Howell.

I also think he has some Chandler Morris to his game.

The one concern I have for him, is just that Georgia really hasn't been producing great QB's too often in recent history. Since Trevor Lawrence, there's been a quite few duds coming outta there, but other than that, I think he’s a good potential ACC starter.

The best HS QB that Mario has signed in his tenure so far. We'll see how it goes.

Not the same as Trevor by any means but Aaron Philo was a record breaking passer in GA HS ranks (almost 14k yards and 160 TDs) and he looked pretty comfortable as a true freshman at Georgia Tech. I think Nickel can be a similar player with the gunslinger background.

Nickel is approaching 10,000 yards and 100 passing TDs in a much higher classification - 5A vs 2A for Philo - he will get to 10k and 100 TDs on Friday. Plus Lawrence and Philo had an extra year of stats on top of Nickel who was a 3 year starter. So he probably paced better than their yardage record as he got right near 4k last year and is at 3k this year and probably has 2 games left. Right in the ballpark.

I question his ceiling but I think at worst you get a guy who knows how to distribute the football and make plays in the air.
