Q&A

I think a special thanks needs to go out to Poster "Ben" for suggesting this Q&A.

Peter, maybe you take some questions on this and make it part of you Podcasts. The hidden people behind the program. Facilities, equipment guys, weight room staff, and other staff who have been around a long time who would have some good stores off the field about the former coaches and athletes. I am sure some coaches had certain things they needed or or wanted different than the former coach. If someone has been around since Butch and has been able to tell us stories "good bad" that are most important interesting. So many people behind the scenes make a multi millionaire n dollar facility run smoothly.

I remember at Nebraska there was an admin who help the players with everything. We were 18-19-20 year old kids and she was the team mom so to speak. The funny stories I am sure she could tell would have been great.
If this is something people are interested in, I'd be happy to answer some questions from my time as a recruiting volunteer and a video guy. My stories won't be nearly as interesting, but I did work during the Randy years and the first year of golden.

CFan3234 - did Randy Change personally from the time he went from DC to HC?

How did recruiting change from Coker to Randy to Golden?

How did each approve the top level kids? Was the strategic plans in place on how to recruit the top kids?

How did Randy plan for the recruiting of the plan B and C kids? Was their a plan to keep them communications up throughout the seasons?

How were the players picked to host the recruits?

Great format and most insightful series. Can we make this a regular feature same guy or rotate among
various U of M alumni?

I wasn't involved with the program prior to Randy being HC. I wasn't privy to much strategy when it came to recruits. My job was mainly stuffing some pretty lame mailers and on game days keeping recruits happy/making sure no fans bothered them/did something that would be a NCAA violation. Sorry I don't have better answers, like I said, my answers wouldn't be nearly as good as Apfenny. I was assigned to the northwestern group, so I can try and answer some questions about them or the 2008 recruiting class

Did the coaches accept the 4 game skid was largely on them due to the horrific play calling?

They realized it was a combination of things both on them and on the players, but they never bashed us or discouraged us. They owned up to what they had to and we all stepped up where we had to as well

this a very telling response for many reasons. curious to see the coaches actually admit to their players that part of the skid was their fault. that says a lot to me about the coaching staff. golden was to quick to throw players under the bus.

They're all business and a no BS staff, and always have all of the player's backs

What was the teams reaction when golden used to throw players under the bus in interviews and things like that?

Some guys got sick of it towards the end of his tenure but it wasn't discussed much in the locker room, more so in smaller circles

How difficult and awkward was it for Swasey to run the S&C program while not being allowed to be in the weight room wit the players?

Also was dnofrio as much of a condescending prick as he seems?

His last season was when he couldn't "be in the weight room", what would happen is that he'd give us a talk before the workout, go over the exercises for that day and then he'd be standing by his office watching everything and the other coaches would walk around. We just thought he was acting more as a ceo type in the weight room, we weren't aware of his restrictions until after the fact. For Dnofrio, yes he was in practice but he was a pretty good guy outside of it

Who has the most scriptures memorized ?

I was gonna say Pastor Richt until I saw Thomas Brown's twitter account. it basically the bible online

I'd say CMR but many on the staff are very religious

How does this play with the team? I know football players are often religious (as can be seen with prayers before/after games) and I am sure that it helps with some recruits and their parents, but do the coaches lay it on thick to team? Do any players get turned off by it?

This is absolutely insane.

A lot of guys on the team are pretty religious so I think a majority of the team likes it. There are some ****** guys on the team so it's a little weird for them but they respect it. The coaches aren't oppressive with their views though or try to force them on anyone. I'm sure there are some that are turned off by it as religion isn't for everyone, but I haven't heard any complaints.

Which alumni come back the most to hang out with the players? Which one is your favorite?

Dozens have come back since I've been here so its hard to list them all, but Andre Johnson came by a few times and actually gave a lot of tips

was one of andre's tips "don't forget to stay hydrated"?

Insane! I can't imagine any other major program where that would be considered ok.
And we still have people here that think it should have continued!!

Anyway thank you for the response.

Wow! Really late to this party. If you take the orange & green glasses off. Can you give us a unbiased state of the program? What do you see happening in the next 5 years? Can Richt and staff win a natty?

Apparently he didn't have the correct certification. Not sure if he just didn't take the test for it or couldn't pass it.
But he couldn't be in the weight room during workouts.
