Can someone explain the difference between a preferred walk-on and a regular walk-on?
And has a walk-on of any kind ever made a big splash for us? (I know that’s not necessarily what they’re for. Just curious.)

Only because Booch Davis had to be creative with football scholarships. Moss as a walk-on lasted about 4 weeks.

This plan to bring in PWO's is very smart, unlike other state schools UM does not have the large student pool to build a solid number of walk-ons. With the staff pushing hard for PWO's this ups the overall talent and competition level of this team.

PWO is offered a guaranteed spot on the team before he arrives. A regular walk on has to attend a try out while already enrolled in school to make the team. Once on the team, all players, scholarship and walk on have the same access to everything except walk ons get one free meal a day where scholarship athletes get all of them paid for.

Thanks for the explanation, but what exactly does "guaranteed" mean? Just that they can practice with the team, nutrition coach, etc.?

Only three scholarship QBs on the roster right now by my count. Rosier, Perry, Weldon. We have another walk on DeBiase on the roster. Williams coming in as the fourth scholarship QB. Richt is on the record as saying he likes to have 5 scholarship QBs. We will have four scholarship QB's to start next year and 2 walk ons. Seems about right, doubt anyone else transfers.

By guaranteed meaning he’s in high school now and is ensured that he has a spot on the roster when he enrolls. Other kids trying to make the team would have to first get accepted to school on their own with no help from the staff, then try to get a tryout and impress enough to be given a spot. Once on the team every player gets the same access to everything
