Props to Garin Justice

Dude learned from Rick Trickett??? Oh yeah, he'll do numbers here. I know he's a WV alum but I wasn't aware of the timeline matching up where they were there together...
Yeah Coach Justice played OT at West Va when Trickett was OL coach under Rich Rodriguez.

After he graduated, he got his first job as a GA for Trickett, then got hired at FSU as a GA towards the tail end of the Bowden era. He was GA at FSU at the same time that Coach Stroud was the S&C coach for them.

Mannzy Navarro has a great podcast this week for The Athletic. McKinnie is his guest and he's hilarious. Talks about how he ended up at Miami and how they all interacted as a team. Lots of great hazing stories from the old days.....

He also talks about Garin Justice. He seems to like him and respect his coaching philosophy, etc. Said Justice invited him to campus right away and they looked at film for a couple of hours. (McKinnie's film, film from Justice's previous coaching stops, and film of the guys currently on the team) He likes his coaching style, technique. McKinnie also said Justice was going to have to "unlearn" some bad habits the guys had been previously taught......

It's a good listen. The subscription is like $5 and well worth it ..

Justice is smart coach with very good experience as both an OC & HC, he's well rounded & can coach well, which usually translates to being a good recruiter because you can always sell to recruits your ability to coach them up & help them maximize their potential.

Plus he's a West Va Trickett disciple, won't find better OL coaches than guys that come from the Trickett coaching tree.

Trickett is a major *******. BUT … I agree that he knows how to coach coaches.

Kind of like Mike Holmgren. Total d*ck, but the guys he mentored as QB coaches know how to do the job.

I did a little homework and saw he was there to go from player to GA under Trickett. It was just one of those things that slipped by me. I was impressed by the improvement his units showed at UNLV & FAU. That alone gave me hope against guys like Searels & Barry whose lines declined at their stops. The fact that he's a Trickett disciple makes super-optimistic about a quick turnaround. Ask the Holes about what Trickett-styled coaching can do for your OL. Those ****heads can't block traffic after getting in a car wreck since he left...

Very good looking out, man.

Also a great sign that Coach Justice is the type of man who is intelligent, humble, and confident enough to take every advantage and opportunity to heart. A lot of our previous corches would wipe their a$$ with tips from local guys because of ego. Even some of the more clever corches that might look into the player wouldn't be smart or gracious enough to come back around with the 'thank you' because they lack self-confidence.

A couple of the things he has said and shown, the way the recruits talk about him (Leigh used the word trust in describing that relationship), and the volume and timing of certain offers (like the Simmons offer) all give me legitimate hope that Coach Justice may be the real deal. Obviously we need to see the results on the field, and we need the signatures come December/February, but it looks like we may have a real OL coach.

exatcly how i feel about him int he recruiting department. He would follow up or take a tip.

Majority of the guys i guess would think ya just selling off a kid to them...wasnt even a kid i coach or had a connection to at all...just liked his film and told em take a look.

But me and him already had contact b4 when he wa sout at UNLV and he would respond then too.

Joe Thomas is on the radio here in Cleveland just about every week and it truly is must see (or hear) radio. I would say that he will be a great coach someday but I think he loves mentoring and teaching young linemen so much that he would rather stay in the booth instead of a sideline.

Justice got a line open with the OL coach at Duncanville HS.
