Q: What have you seen out of Rayshawn Jenkins?

A: Rayshawn is very active on the ball, which is why he's been getting reps with the one's. The probability that he makes a play on the ball is higher than a lot of the other guys at that position right now. He's around the ball, he knocks them down, he intercepts them, he recovers fumbles. That's what we're looking for - we're looking for production, and with his opportunities he's produced.

Here's the thing - at this point, we are what we are. Our team isn't going to get significantly better or worse between now and Sept. 1. So basically just watch the injury reports and enjoy the ride!

I wouldn't mind Jenkins getting the reps, but I'll wait and see what Kacy Rodgers can do. I'd even give Highsmith a look over Jenkins at first... Rodgers is young, seems intelligent, and has good size... he is getting way too much hate.

Many good college players emerge after not seeing much of the field early in their careers.

Before the first game is even played. SMH at you.

I want Jenkins to be our safety, call me crazy, but that is why everyone is so high on him coming out of highschool- DUDE HAS IT. like our coach- they both just get IT

Good to hear those comments about Rayshawn. The more players we have that are doing well, the better.

As far as Rodgers goes, he is listed on the depth chart as "or" with Deon.

We will be very young and inexperienced, I'm fine with Deon taking the job from Rodgers, believe it will happen at some point, but they're not going to just hand him the gig.

I thnk Rodgers has Bill Buckner syndrome for making a bad read (along with Ray Ray) vs. FSU last year. It was a pretty bad *****-up against our #1 rivals. I have no idea how Rodgers will play this year. But we finally have some competition at the position between him, Bush, Jenkins and Highsmith.

And I agree it was an awful play, but the kid has gotten much bigger and has supposedly had a good off-season, and let's not forget he's only a redshirt sophomore with little experience.

More an indictment of VT than Rodgers IMO. Rodgers is a big strong punishing SS.

I would prefer Rodgers and Jenkins on the backend just for the sake of their athleticism over VT/Highsmith.

The only proof I need that Rodgers should never set foot on the field for the Canes again was that debacle of a play vs FSU last year.

I don't want to hear "that was only one play". I know high school kids that could have made a play on that ball. I'm not saying it had to be a pick....but even after watching it again several times I have no explanation as to how Rodgers didn't

A) Completely lay him out with a nasty hit
B) At least tip the ball away.

Instead we get

C) Example A of some of the worst football instincts this program has ever seen.

To be honest I would have felt better about the kid if he had gotten too anxious while that ball was in the air and got there early resulting in a pass interference call. I can take a mistake that comes as a result of being too aggressive. I have a hard time accepting him standing there with both feet stuck in mud and 100 pound ankle weights all while spectating a jump ball pass with a 4.5 second hang time.

Start Highsmith or shift Gunter over. Either way we are in bad shape back there. I don't think it's fair to ask or expect Jenkins to be ready to man the position as a true freshman.

Give me the converted QB all day. There's a pretty good track record for converted QB's switching to other positions. If you're bright enough to play QB you obviously have at least a decent football IQ.

Well, if one bad play defines a career/player, Ed Reed should have never seen another snap, after his Penn State flub.

Relax, guys, lay off the hallucinogens, and stop killing the kids we got. It is what it is right now, and the smart thing to do is hope somebody steps up, take the bull by the horns, and becomes a playmaker, regardless of who it is. It could be Swasey for all I care.
